Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) on the Med/Surg 5 Intermediate Care Unit at the M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center – West Bank Campus in Minneapolis, MN.

The Med/Surg IMC RN will provide care to medical surgical adult patients with sophisticated medical conditions that require close observation, monitoring, and interventions. This unique department has a mixture of Med/Surg and Intermediate Care patients. Are you ready for every day to be different and exciting with a wide range of patient population experiences? About Our 5 Med Surg Department at the UMMC West Bank:

  • Our unit consists of 24 Beds with a mixture of Med/Surg and Intermediate Care patients.  
    • Care Delivery: 3 patients per RN in IMC and 4-5 Med/Surg assignment.  
  • Our team is prepared to work with a variety of adult patient diagnoses including:  
    • Sepsis 
    • Overdoses/Withdrawals 
    • Spine Surgeries 
    • Telemetry 
    • Continuous IV Infusions of Anti-Dysrhythmic and Vasoactive Drugs 
    • Complex Medication and Infusion Therapies 
    • Pneumonia 
    • Altered Mental Status (AMS) 
    • And more!  
  • Adaptability, willingness to learn, and critical thinking skills are all important to be successful in this position. 
  • We are looking for someone who will accel in a fast-paced environment, someone who knows how to problem solve, who is flexible and collaborative, and who is dedicated to always putting the patient first. 

Schedule: This position will be working 0.6 FTE (48 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the night Shift with an every third weekend rotation (F,S,S).

As a Med Surg 5 IMC RN, you will be responsible and accountable for patient assessment, analysis, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention application, and the identification and evaluation of outcomes for patients of all ages and populations. You will also be responsible for performing the following responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act: 

  • Conducting ongoing assessments as determined by patient’s condition and/or the hospital policies, procedures or protocols and prioritizes care accordingly. 
  • Establishing and implementing nursing care plans for assigned patient populations through assessment, development, activation, evaluation, and discharge. 
  • Prioritizing, delegating, and maintaining oversight of duties and responsibilities of other staff members as a team leader. 
  • Maintaining confidentiality in matters related to patient, family, and facility. 
  • Demonstrating the ability to deliver care or service by adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. 
  • Collaborating with the patient, family, and health care team members.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Associate Degree in Nursing 
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 
  • Valid RN License from MN Board of Nursing 
  • ACLS required within 1 year of hire 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher 
  • One year of current Med Surg experience in a hospital setting
