General Summary:
5B at the Bayhealth Sussex campus is a 24 bed Progressive Care Unit. The unit is equipped with 5 ICU headboards. This unit participates in Nurse Governance, Nurse Residency and has excellent teamwork and leadership. 5B was recently awarded the AACN Silver level Beacon Award; This prestigious national award recognizes hospital units that demonstrate exceptional patient outcomes, healthy work environment and sustained commitment evidence-based nursing practice. The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within a assigned unit with a commitment to quality and safety. Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge judgment and skill are performed using the process in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and nursing philosophy.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct, professional nursing care to specified population of patients in the acute care setting.
2. Develops a patient centered plan of care based on individualized needs.
3. Maintains confidentiality of the patient medical record.
4. Counsel and educate patients and their care partner on treatment plans.
5. Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration.
6. Provide wound care and dressing changes, as applicable.
7. Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions, when appropriate.
8. Consult with physicians to decide on best treatment decisions when appropriate
9. Performs nursing interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
10. Observe and record patient behavior and response to nursing interventions.
11. Demonstrates quality, safe and effective patient care.
12. Provides delegation to unlicensed assistive staff and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) staff
13. Demonstrates standards of excellence which includes practicing nursing with core values of compassion, accountability, respect, teamwork and integrity.
14. Demonstrates understanding and executes quality and performance improvement plans. (only for RN evaluation)
15. Participates in decision making and takes actions based on ethical principles. (only for RN evaluation)
16. Provides timely and accurate documentation of patient care.
