Job Description UC Health is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse for the Diagnostic Cardiology department for the first shift at UC Medical Center. The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals.
The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age specific. Responsibilities Patient Population Engages in age- and population-appropriate communication.
Demonstrates knowledge of growth, development milestones, and life-stage tasks. Provides clear treatment instructions to patients and families. Involves family members/guardians in assessment, treatment, and ongoing care.
Identifies physical limitations and implements appropriate interventions. Recognizes and responds appropriately to behavioral health concerns in patients and families. Interprets population-specific data and develops appropriate care plans.
Identifies and responds to psychological, cultural, and religious needs that may impact care. Safely performs treatments, administers medications, and operates equipment. Recognizes and responds appropriately to signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect.
Assessment Demonstrates clinical nursing skills necessary to accurately assess the patient's physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs. Applies knowledge of age-specific physiological and psychosocial development. Performs comprehensive physical assessments.
Completes nursing admission history, assessment, and educational needs assessment upon admission. Initiates referrals based on patient assessment findings throughout the continuum of care. Recognizes signs, symptoms, and data related to current and potential patient problems.
Reassesses patient needs each shift and more frequently when indicated by patient condition or standards of care. Continuously evaluates patient and environmental safety. Provides and receives complete, concise, and timely handoff reports.
Recognizes, reports, and incorporates abnormal findings and subtle patient condition changes into the plan of care. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to collect and communicate pertinent patient information. Participates in discharge planning activities.
Planning Uses assessment data to identify, prioritize, and address actual and potential patient problems and needs. Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises interdisciplinary care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Communicates the plan of care effectively to all team members involved in patient care.
Prioritizes care based on patient needs, assessment findings, and established standards of practice. Implementation Implements interventions and care plans based on assessed needs, standards of care, and organizational policies. Delivers direct care and appropriately delegates responsibilities according to staff competency.
Collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare team members to carry out the plan of care. Demonstrates critical thinking and accountability when implementing provider orders and nursing interventions. Administers medications safely and competently in accordance with licensure and organizational policy.
Recognizes emergency situations and takes prompt, appropriate action while maintaining professionalism. Makes timely referrals to appropriate healthcare team members based on assessment findings. Implements safety measures to protect patients, families, and staff and reports safety concerns promptly.
Demonstrates competency in infection prevention and control practices. Professional Development Takes responsibility for ongoing professional growth and supports the development of peers and colleagues. Participates in department and unit meetings.
Utilizes learning opportunities to improve personal and team performance. Identifies strengths and opportunities for growth and actively pursues professional development. Maintains competency in nursing practice.
Completes required education, certifications, regulatory requirements, testing, and documentation on time. Participates in evidence-based practice initiatives and quality improvement efforts. Engages in self-evaluation, peer review, and performance improvement activities.
Documentation Accurately and concisely documents the nursing process, including patient responses and outcomes. Maintains documentation in accordance with UC Health policies and procedures. Documents collaborative care planning and interdisciplinary involvement.
Appropriately documents patient, family, and caregiver education and their responses. Evaluation Continuously evaluates nursing practice against standards of care and patient goals. Assesses the effectiveness of interventions and adjusts the plan of care as needed.
Includes patients, families, and healthcare team members in the evaluation process when appropriate. Ensures continuity of care through effective communication during handoffs, transfers, and shift changes. Leadership Effectively coordinates and manages patient care through others.
Demonstrates strong time-management and organizational skills. Maintains flexibility and a collaborative attitude to meet unit needs. Serves as a resource and mentor to new staff, float personnel, and supplemental staff.
Functions as a preceptor when assigned. Delegates appropriately and communicates expectations clearly with ancillary staff. Productivity Considers cost-effectiveness and patient outcomes when planning care.
Manages workload efficiently and effectively. Initiates patient care promptly. Responds to patient requests and call lights in a timely manner.
Promotes efficient utilization of staffing and supplies. Qualifications Education And Requirements Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred Ohio RN License Specialty areas may prefer 2+ years of related nursing experience, including Critical Care, Emergency Department, Perioperative Services, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Radiology, Mobile Care/Transport, or PICC services. Additional specialty-specific experience, such as transport nursing, interventional radiology, critical care, emergency nursing, or PICC line experience, is preferred based on the assigned department.
