Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites. 
The Clinical Lab Technologist will prepare pathological slides for diagnostic procedures.

This position is located in the Surgical Pathology lab at the Moses campus and is a per diem position.

Responsibilities

  • Run tissue processor to produce paraffin blocks
  • Embed pathology specimen to view all layers
  • Cut Pathology specimens on rotary microtome
  • Stain routine Hematoxylin Eosin to view tissue section, stain routine special stains (GMS, AFB, PAS) in order to identify organism or specific tissue elements
  • Enzyme histochemistry (leder esterase)
  • Perform order entry and update on LISA to bill special stains
  • Label and sign out slides to assure accurate distribution of cases
  • Cover slipper (manual and automated), to ensure there is no water or air bubble under coverslip
  • Perform on all routine work, quality control to ensure high standard in the laboratory
  • Record equipment maintenance   to ensure proper operation of equipment
  • Prepare solutions to ensure correct histological processing
  • Process requests from pathology residents and attendings to ensure that work order is complete
  • Assist in Immunohistochemistry procedure to identify antigens
  • File paraffin blocks and slides
  • Prioritize duties, tissue handling, sign out of cases
  • Trouble shoot technical procedures
  • Perform other duties in the department as needed

Requirements

  • Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a physical science, medical technology preferred
  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License is required
  • Histopathology experience preferred
  • Proficiency in routine histology techniques (embedding, microtomy, cryotomy, staining) preferred
  • Experience with IHC staining, including antibody selection, optimization, and troubleshooting preferred
  • Must have experience operating the following equipment: Rotary microtome, Laboratory Information System, Scales, Microwave, pH meter, Automated cover slipper, Microscope, Embedding Center, Tissue processor, Water bath, Cryoplate, Incubator oven
