Position Summary:

Pathology Technicians/Lab Assistants at our hospital laboratory sites are responsible for providing a wide variety of technical and administrative support including specimen accessioning, scheduling and performing procedures, resolving discrepancies, as well as providing general procedural support to pathologists and hospital staff and physicians. This position requires great flexibility, attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. Lab Assistant are also responsible for adhering to HIPAA standards and strict Standard Operating Procedures and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. Environmental hazards such as formalin, communicable disease, fresh human tissue, etc. are present in the workplace.ย  This is a float position and will require travelling to other sites.


Position Schedule: Monday - Friday, rotating shifts 7:00am - 5:30pm with once a month for a week at Valley Hospital


Essential Duties:

May perform any of the following duties or groups of duties:

  • Accessions specimen

  • Processes cytology specimen
  • Prepares Frozen Sections for diagnosis
  • Assists with in-patient FNA procedures
  • Assists with in-patient and out-patient bone marrow biopsies
  • Assists Pathologists with specimen grossing and workstation prep
  • Muscle biopsy preparation
  • Schedules procedures
  • Provides support in resolution center
  • Provides assistance to Histology
  • Delivers specimen to relevant departments
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and PPE requirements

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Combination of High school graduate AND 1+ year of relevant clinical/laboratory experience

Or

  • Bachelor's in medical technology, chemical, physical, or biological science (strongly preferred for Spokane candidates)
  • Previous experience working a clinical/medical/laboratory environment highly preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to lift 10+ lbs.
  • Be able to stand for over 2.5 hours at a time
  • Be able to move around in tight spaces
