Position Summary: The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides comprehensive school-based occupational therapy services that support students' educational access, functional performance, and overall participation in school activities. Responsibilities include conducting evaluations to determine eligibility; developing and implementing individualized intervention plans aligned with IEP goals; and collecting and analyzing data to monitor progress. The OT collaborates closely with Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, teachers, and families to promote student success. This role requires effective use of sensory-motor integration strategies, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology. Additional duties include providing professional development, maintaining accurate and timely documentation, and engaging in continuous professional learning.
Qualifications:
  • Hold or be eligible for a license as Occupational Therapist (OT) in the State of Delaware issued by Delaware Board of Occupational Therapy Practice.
  • Experience as an Occupational Therapist in a school system or other pediatric practice setting preferred, but not required.
Performance Responsibilities: This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or ability associated with this role but is intended to accurately reflect the principle job elements.
  • Provide leadership and coordination of occupational therapy services, including collaboration and supervision of COTAs.
  • Conduct evaluations and assessments to determine eligibility for OT services.
  • Co-treat and collaborate with physical therapists and speech-language pathologists as needed.
  • Teach and support the development of functional and occupational skills that enhance student independence and engagement in school routines.
  • Collect, analyze, and use data to monitor progress toward OT goals and inform service decisions.
  • Assist in developing meaningful annual goals and benchmarks for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide professional development to parents, colleagues, teachers, and administrators on OT principles, strategies, and best practices.
  • Model and provide guidance on sensory-motor strategies and environmental supports.
    Demonstrate appropriate use of materials, tools, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology relevant to occupational therapy.
  • Deliver individual and group interventions that address student needs and align with educational activities.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and administrators regarding student progress and performance.
  • Collaborate with school teams to identify and address student needs related to health, behavior, learning, and functional skills.
  • Maintain professional competence through district-provided and self-directed professional learning.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with district and state guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Employment Condition: By accepting employment as an 11-month employee with the Milford School District, you acknowledge and understand that:
  • A primary responsibility during the summer months (June to August) is to support district-run summer programming for special education students, Extended School Year (ESY), and/or other specialized instructional or support services.
  • 11-month employees are expected to maintain flexibility in scheduling to fulfill assigned duties related to summer instruction, student services, or program coordination. The Director of Special Programs shall make every effort to inform 11-month employees of their assigned summer responsibilities by the end of May.
Terms of Employment: Eleven-month (11) full-time employee. The 11-month work calendar includes an extended contract period beyond the standard 10-month schedule, encompassing 19 summer days or 142.5 hours assigned by the Director of Special Programs.
Salary: Salary schedule is based on experience and degree and can be found on the district website: https://www.milfordschooldistrict.org/our-district/empowering-and-investing-in-our-people/human-resources/benefits-and-compensation. Compensation will be adjusted to reflect the total 11-month term, inclusive of these additional responsibilities.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
