Hematopathology Medical Director
ARUP Laboratories, Department of Pathology, University of Utah School of Medicine
The Department of Pathology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and ARUP Laboratories is inviting applications from individuals with a strong interest in building an academic career in Hematopathology. Applicants should hold either an MD, MD/PhD, degree with board certification or board eligibility in Hematopathology. Eligibility for Utah medical license is required. Additional experience or certification in molecular genetic pathology or pathology informatics/AI is desirable but not required.
ARUP is a comprehensive, high-complexity reference laboratory that serves a diverse clientele. Our clients include over half of the nation's university teaching hospitals, children's hospitals, major commercial laboratories, military and government facilities, and numerous community hospitals. As a result, our laboratory receives a wide variety of specimen types and testing requests. We provide an extensive range of testing options, encompassing both traditional techniques and specialized, esoteric testing in the field of laboratory diagnostics. The hematopathology service encompasses morphologic review of blood, bone marrow, lymph nodes/spleen etc., flow cytometry including MRD, molecular/NGS signout, Red Cell/Hemoglobin Cascade and hemostasis/thrombosis. There are eight defined hematopathology services and service assignments are based on experience and interest. In addition to University of Utah Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Insittute, ARUP provides hematopathology service to Primary Children's Hospital. Also, ARUP hematopathologists provide expert consultation and flow cytometry, molecular/NGS service to various hospitals and pathology groups across the nation.
The successful candidate must have experience in clinical diagnostic testing as related to hematopathology. Primary responsibilities include clinical test result interpretation and reporting; quality control and assurance; laboratory test development; teaching and training of fellows and residents, research/investigation and committee service. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical and academic background appropriate to their level of training and experience, as well as excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Additional responsibilities may include directorship of a clinical laboratory section.
Academic rank (Assistant, Associate or Professor) and compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and accomplishments.
