They work with clients to enforce or defend patent rights in court, draft legal documents, conduct research on patent laws and prior art, and assist in all stages of litigation from pre-trial investigations to trial and appeals. These associates collaborate with inventors, experts, and other attorneys to build strong cases and protect intellectual property. Their work requires a solid understanding of both law and technology.

About this role

We are looking for an IP Litigation Associate with 1-6 years of experience to join Morrison & Foerster's powerhouse patent litigation practice. This is a high-priority hire driven by increased demand, and you'll work on the highest-profile and most complex patent disputes for leading tech, life sciences, and consumer products companies.

What will you be doing?

  • Handling patent and/or trade secret litigation matters for high-caliber tech and life sciences clients
  • Taking on substantive responsibility early — matters are staffed leanly, giving associates direct client exposure
  • Conducting research, drafting briefs, and managing case strategy across complex IP disputes
  • Working collaboratively across offices on matters involving cutting-edge technologies
  • Contributing to ITC proceedings, district court litigation, and client counseling

Key Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in hard sciences — computer science, physics, math, electrical engineering, or life sciences strongly preferred (PhD in a relevant field is a major plus)
  • Strong academic credentials — the group reviews law school and undergraduate transcripts/GPAs closely
  • Experience at a top law firm handling patent and/or trade secret litigation
  • Admitted to the state bar in which you are practicing
  • Stable career trajectory — minimal lateral moves preferred
Role responsibilities
• Represent clients in high-profile and complex patent disputes.
• Resolve matters before trial and excel in courtroom litigation.
• Explain cutting-edge technologies to juries.
• Counsel clients with respect to ongoing matters.
