Job description

Summary: The Firm's Intellectual Property practice is growing rapidly, and we are seeking a Technical Specialist or Patent Agent with at least four (4) years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications. The ideal candidate will have experience in wireless communications (including 5G/6G connectivity and WLAN/Wi-Fiยฎ), as well as software and machine learning/artificial intelligence technologies. Experience with medical device technologies (device and software), gaming technologies, and smart data capture is a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities of staff designated as a Technical Specialist or Patent Agent at the Firm include, but are not limited to:
  1. Reviewing invention disclosure documents, and conducting/participating in invention disclosure meetings;
  2. Drafting patent applications;
  3. Reviewing Official Communications from the USPTO and foreign patent offices, recommending response strategies, conducting examiner interviews, and drafting responses.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Required:
A Technical Specialist or Patent Agent must:
  1. Possess a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related physical science or engineering discipline;
  2. Have at least four (4) years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with the ability to hit the ground running on a growing, fast-paced docket;
  3. Have experience in at least the aforementioned wireless communications, software, and medical device technologies;
  4. Provide writing samples reflecting excellent writing skills;
  5. Exhibit professionalism/good communication skills with demanding clients, exercise attention to detail, and balance various client responsibilities;
  6. Have the ability to work effectively with other team members;
  7. Prior work experience in a law firm strongly preferred.
