Job description

We are seeking a trained and skilled Pastry Chef to work in and Manage our Shorewood location bakery:
We are a full scratch bakery with dedicated shifts and departments making homemade artisan breads, cookies, scones, muffins, tortes, flans, pies, confections and numerous other bakery products. As a member of our team, you will supply the energy and enthusiasm to motivate employees and engage staff . We will supply the training and opportunities to encourage creativity and promote personal growth. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be willing to work a 40-55 hours per week
  • Take a leadership role in bakery operations.
  • Learn, understand, and competently work most bakery positions.
  • Achieve optimal performance from employees through communicating and role modeling.
  • Assist in food costing
  • Maintain production standards
  • Asses and monitor quality and ensure standards are met
  • Actively participate in the selection, orientation and training of new Bakers and Assistants.
  • Be flexible certain days of the week, willing to answer the phone and problem solve.
  • Perform a variety of tasks with a certain degree of creativity and latitude (required)
  • Assist in staff meetings and communications related to the department

Required Experience & Skills:
  • 1+ years of baking and pastry job experience
  • Formal or informal education and training in Pastry Arts
  • ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification (or willingness to obtain within the first 60 days of employment)
  • Willingness to submit a criminal background test
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Must be able to lift approx. 50lbs
  • Passion for the Baking and Pastry business and a strong desire to achieve excellence and encourage others.
  • Strong knowledge of commonly used best practices, concepts and procedures in a bakery environment.
  • Leadership and communication skills
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. (college degree and/or completion of post-secondary school training in an industry-related program is a plus)
References and a consistent work history with longevity are required for this position.
