Job description

Sanitation Lead

The Sanitation Lead is a working position, responsible for providing leadership and overseeing an area or production line. Responsible for directing staff to get regular daily cleaning and sanitizing tasks completed and special cleaning projects. The Sanitation Lead is responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal food safety regulations, adhering to the standards and policies of the Sanitation Guidelines ensuring that day-to-day cleaning and maintenance activities are consistently met, identifying employee needs and providing the appropriate direction, training, and feedback to address those needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of staff to complete written Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures per directions on plant premises and equipment. Ensures that SSOP's are being followed and all areas of premises and equipment are being properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Ensure that work is completed according to daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.
  • Informs Sanitation Manager of any food safety problems (presence of pests, inability to properly clean equipment, any needed cleaning equipment, leaks, etc.)
  • Be proactive in detecting and correcting sanitation problems.
  • Adhere to all sanitation and chemical usage procedures. Ability to work safely and train safety to all sanitation workers.
  • Ability to follow all plant Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Timely, Accurate, and Efficient completion of all required paperwork documentation.
  • Observe all safety rules, precautions, and practices to ensure the safety of self and others. Enforces all PPE usage with sanitation staff.
  • Observe, recognize, and report immediately to Supervision, any Site Security or Bio-terrorism issues.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned by Supervision.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to recognize food safety and sanitation issues and notify supervision.
  • Ability to work independently on projects, and report results to supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently as well as with groups.

Skills/Experience/Education Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of 5 years related work experience required. Experience and knowledge in food sanitation operations, procedures, chemicals and program standards, preferably in a general food or manufacturing industry.
  • A working knowledge of food technology, food science, microbiology or chemistry required.
  • Knowledge of food safety programs such as HACCP, SQF, GMP
  • Preferably bi-lingual (English and Spanish) Good communication skills and good people skills to work with line operators, quality inspectors and production supervisors to get equipment cleaned efficiently.
  • Read and understand chemical labels.
  • Read and understand HACCP along with FDA and OSHA requirements.
  • Leadership competencies that lead and inspire others – drives for exceptional results.
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to train, maintain and promote a safe work environment.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work.
