WARD SECRETARY - EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

(REGULAR PART TIME)

One (1) regular part time Ward Secretary position is available in the Emergency Department at Louise Marshall Hospital, siteof North Wellington Health Care.

This position is unionized with OPSEU, Local 226.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the incumbent is responsible for facilitating effective communication, providing reception and clerical support including (but not limited to):

  • Electronic registration/admission/discharge/transfer of Emergency Department patients
  • Processing physician orders and consultation requests
  • Arranging tests/procedures
  • Accessing medical records and obtaining information for practitioners when required
  • Arranging transportation
  • Answering phones
  • Completing requests for PTACauthorizations
  • Chart assembly, filing, copying
  • Maintaining clerical supplies within the department
  • Assisting with coordination of additional staffing needs
  • Supporting break relief when required at Switchboard
  • Assisting with turnover of rooms as appropriate when volumes are high
  • Communicating with patient's and/or families to obtain additional demographic or emergency contact data when required


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills: cordial, professional and positive mannerism
  • Excellent clerical proficiency: word processing, computer entry, reception, filing
  • Strong organizational and time management expertise to cope in a challenging and often stressful environment
  • Medical terminology course (or equivalency) preferred; or assume responsibility to complete the course within a specified time frame
  • Previous unit clerk experience preferred
  • Previous Meditech experience
  • Detail orientated with demonstrated aptitude for utmost accuracy
  • Satisfactory performance and attendance required
  • Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date
  • Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hired

HOURS OF WORK:

  • As per department schedule (including weekends and statutory holidays)
  • As per Collective Agreement

SALARY: $29.27 to $30.59 per hour
