Location: Penn Hills School District Position: Unarmed and Armed School Security Officer (Substitute) Reports To: Director of School District Safety and Security Employment Status: Part-Time Salary: $20/hour SummaryThe Unarmed School Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors within the Penn Hills School District. This role includes patrolling school grounds, monitoring visitor access, and assisting with safety and security protocols. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSafety and Security: Patrol school grounds, buildings, and surrounding areas to maintain a visible and active security presence.Emergency Response: Assist in responding promptly to emergencies, including medical emergencies, accidents, and disturbances; coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.Conflict Resolution: Mediate disputes and manage conflicts among students, staff, and visitors.Investigation: Assist in conducting thorough investigations into incidents occurring on school property; prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records.Preventive Measures: Develop and implement crime prevention strategies and programs; conduct safety drills and training sessions.Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community; participate in school and community events.Policy Enforcement: Ensure compliance with school policies and procedures related to safety and security.Professional Development: Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in school safety and security.QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.Certification (Unarmed):Must complete the Basic School Resource Officer Course of Instruction offered by NASRO (National Association of School Resource Officers) or an equivalent course approved by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) within the designated timeframe.Must satisfy background check requirements under Sections 111 and 111.1 of the Public School Code and 23 Pa.C.S

6344.Certification (Armed):NASRO (National Association of School Resource Officers) certification required.Must possess Act 235 certification (Lethal Weapons Training).Must meet the training requirements as specified by the Pennsylvania School Code, including the Basic School Resource Officer Course of Instruction or an equivalent course approved by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD).Must satisfy background check requirements under Sections 111 and 111.1 of the Public-School Code and 23 Pa.C.S. 6344.Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in security or a related field, with prior experience in a school setting preferred.Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills; ability to handle sensitive and stressful situations with composure.Physical Requirements: Must meet physical and medical standards for security personnel; ability to perform physical activities associated with job duties, including walking, standing, and observing for extended periods.Background Check: Completing a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, child abuse clearance, and drug screening.Working ConditionsEnvironment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; exposure to potentially hazardous situations may occur.Hours: Full-time position with the potential for extended hours, including evenings and weekends, based on school Equal Opportunity EmployerThe Penn Hills School District is an equal opportunity employer.
