Position Description
*Applicants must be available to work between Monday and Friday during the day shift hours.*
All LVMPD part-time positions are limited to 19 hours per week and 988 hours per year. Religious Services Worker - Part-Time is paid at $27.85 an hour.
Position Description
Incumbents assist in providing services that support the religious and pastoral needs of inmates in Detention Services Division (DSD) facilities and perform related duties as assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a part-time position not subject to the competitive requirements of the LVMPD Civil Service Rules.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direct supervision from the Religious Services Coordinator or higher-level staff.
May coordinate the work of religious services volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications/Position-Specific Conditions
Experience
One year of experience in the field of religious services, preferably in an environment where various faith groups and/or viewpoints are represented.
Training/Education
  • College-level coursework from an accredited college or university in Theology, Divinity, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Religious Studies, or a related field.
  • Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the date of the first test instrument.
  • Be at least 18 years old by the date of the first test instrument.

License or Certificate
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Nevada driver license.
Conditions of Employment
In addition to the General Conditions of Employment, found , the following specific conditions of employment and physical conditions apply to this position.
  1. Personal Appearance: While on duty, and/or representing the Department, uniformed or otherwise, all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles or jewelry on or through the nose, tongue, eyebrow or other exposed body part, except the ears for females, while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or "gauging" their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using neutral-toned bandages or patches except for hands, neck, head, or face tattoos. Makeup is not permissible to cover a tattoo. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
  2. Participate in the LVMPD Mental Wellness Program.
  3. New employees and LVMPD employees transferring to DSD are required to, within 14 days of being hired or transferred, undergo an annual tuberculosis testing/screening, per NRS.
  4. Must be willing and able to have inmate contact if assigned to the Detention Services Division.

Environmental Conditions:
Confined office and jail spaces; possible exposure to communicable diseases, and hygiene issues common to a correctional environment; urban and rural road conditions when driving to and from work and when establishing contacts with community resources; possible risk to personal safety when interacting closely with correctional inmates.
Physical Conditions:
  1. Vision sufficient to read the computer screen, as well as fine prints in documents.
  2. Hearing sufficient to hear conversations and directions in person and over the telephone.
  3. Dexterity and mobility sufficient to operate standard office equipment, operate motorized vehicles, and climb stairs.
  4. Agility sufficient to twist, bend, stoop, and kneel.
  5. Strength and mobility sufficient to lift and carry light to moderate documents, books, and other items.
  6. Endurance sufficient to sit or stand for prolonged periods to complete assigned tasks; stand and move around while working indoors or within confined space; and/or to wear a mask in special situations.

Those items permitted will be left to the discretion of the LVMPD employees administering the examination and may be subject to a search.Additional Selection ProcessesIf you successfully complete the above selection process, you will undergo a thorough background investigation, including a polygraph exam. A polygraph examination can be stressful and may affect existing medical or psychological conditions or ongoing treatment. Candidates are encouraged to consult with their personal physicians to discuss whether the polygraph will affect a condition or treatment and then follow the guidance of their medical professional.
The background investigation takes approximately 90 to 120 days to complete. You must also meet the LVMPD Hiring Standards.
