Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, data collection software, and electronic health records is commonly required. Both parttime and full-time RBTs require the RBT certification and work in similar environments within behavior therapy. The main difference lies in hours worked and schedule flexibility, with parttime RBTs offering more flexibility and full-time RBTs providing consistent hours for those seeking full employment in the field.

What does a typical workweek look like for a part-time Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and how flexible are the hours?

As a part-time Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), your weekly schedule often varies based on client needs and agency practices. Many part-time RBTs work afternoons, evenings, or weekends to accommodate children's school schedules, and sessions may be held in homes, clinics, or community settings. While there is some flexibility in choosing shifts, maintaining consistency for your assigned clients is important. Communication with supervisors and families is key to balancing your availability and ensuring client progress.

What are part-time RBTs?

Part-time Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) are professionals who provide applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy services to clients, usually children with autism or other developmental disorders, on a part-time basis. They work under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and assist with implementing behavior intervention plans, collecting data, and supporting clients in developing new skills. Part-time RBTs typically work flexible hours, which may include evenings or weekends, making the role suitable for students or individuals seeking supplemental income. Their responsibilities and required qualifications are the same as full-time RBTs, but with fewer weekly hours.

Description:

About Childrenโ€™s Specialized ABA

Childrenโ€™s Specialized ABA is part of the Childrenโ€™s Specialized Hospital Autism Center of Excellence. We serve children with ASD by combining clinical innovation, whole-child care, and personalized therapy.

At Childrenโ€™s Specialized ABA, we envision a future where every child diagnosed with autism has access to innovative and compassionate care, empowering them to thrive and reach their full potential. Our vision is built on four core values:

  • Inclusivity: We celebrate the diversity within the Autism spectrum and are committed to creating an inclusive environment that respects and values each personโ€™s individual strengths and differences.
  • Innovation: We foster a culture of creativity and collaboration, exploring new ideas to develop personalized solutions that enhance quality of life for all children with Autism.
  • Connection: We actively engage with the health systems and broader community to coordinate services and care for people with Autism.
  • Quality and Safety: We invest in research and training to provide cutting-edge, effective, safe, and personalized services tailored to the unique needs of those we serve.

Join Us as a Part-Time Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

As an RBT, youโ€™ll provide one-on-one ABA therapy to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them build communication, social, and daily living skills while reducing challenging behaviors. Youโ€™ll work closely with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and a collaborative care team to deliver high-quality, compassionate care.

Not certified yet? Weโ€™ve got you covered โ€” we provide paid training and cover the cost of your RBT exam to help you launch your career with confidence.

What You'll Do:

  • Deliver individualized therapy sessions in-home or clinic-based
  • Implement behavior acquisition and reduction plans
  • Use electronic tools such as CentralReach to conduct preference assessments and track data.
  • Collaborate in clinical meetings and receive ongoing feedback and supervision
  • Maintain program books and develop teaching materials
  • Communicate progress to parents and caregivers
  • Provide basic care (e.g., toileting, eating) as needed

What You'll Need:

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Reliable transportation
  • RBT certification is preferred, but not required โ€” if you're positive, motivated, and eager to learn, weโ€™ll provide the training and support to help you succeed.
  • Prior experience working with childrenโ€”ASD experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to commit to a consistent weekly schedule
  • Physically able to perform job duties (e.g., kneeling, bending, lifting up to 40 lbs., moving with children)

Work Location:

This position will provide in-home services to clients located within a radius of approximately 20 miles from your home. Candidates must have reliable transportation and be comfortable traveling between client locations. We offer premium pay for sessions scheduled after 5 PM, as well as paid drive time between clients, and weekly BCBA supervision.

The Perks of Being on Our Team:

  • If you're not yet certified, we offer company-sponsored, best-in-class training to help you earn your Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential โ€” including covering the exam cost and increasing your pay once certified.
  • Increased hourly rate for bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates.
  • Premium pay for sessions after 5 PM and paid drive time between clients.
  • Annual performance-based raises.
  • Weekly supervision and 10% in-person BCBA support.
  • Free CEUs and fieldwork supervision for current or aspiring BCBA students.
  • Clear pathways for advancement โ€” whether youโ€™re aiming to become a Lead RBT or move into an administrative role (authorizations, scheduling, recruitment), we promote from within. (Fun fact: some of our recruiters started as RBTs!)
  • Supportive, inclusive culture where your voice, ideas, and empathy are truly valued.
  • Accrued paid sick time and benefits available for eligible employees.
  • Referral bonus program โ€” help us grow the team and get rewarded.
  • Exclusive discounts on entertainment, travel, theme parks, and more.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $23.00โ€“$30.00 per hour.

Final compensation will be based on a range of factors, such as your skills, education, experience, certifications, market conditions, and internal equity. All offers are made in alignment with applicable federal and state laws.
