What does part-time and full-time mean in employment?

The terms 'part-time' and 'full-time' refer to the number of hours an employee works each week. Full-time employees typically work around 35-40 hours per week and may receive benefits such as health insurance and paid time off. Part-time employees usually work fewer hours, often less than 30-35 hours per week, and may have more flexible schedules but often fewer benefits. The exact definitions can vary by employer and country, so it's important to check with your workplace or local labor laws.

How do employers typically structure schedules for roles that offer both part-time and full-time options?

Employers often provide flexibility by offering a mix of fixed and variable shifts for roles that accommodate both part-time and full-time positions. Part-time employees may work set hours on specific days or rotating shifts, while full-time staff typically have more consistent weekly schedules. Communication with supervisors and early notice of availability are important, as schedules can fluctuate based on business needs. Team collaboration is encouraged regardless of status, and many organizations offer opportunities for part-time staff to transition into full-time roles as openings arise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time or full-time employee, and why are they important?

To thrive as a part-time or full-time employee, you generally need relevant job-specific skills, a solid educational background, and dependability. Familiarity with common office software, scheduling tools, or specialized systems for your industry is often required. Strong communication, time management, and teamwork skills help individuals excel in both part-time and full-time roles. These abilities ensure productivity, adaptability, and positive contributions to organizational goals regardless of the employment type.

Home Care Assistant (Part-Time / Full-Time / Flexible Hours)

Touchmark

Portland, OR • On-site

Part-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Re-posted 17 hours ago

Job description

Company Description

Touchmark, an Oregon-based, award-winning developer, owner and operator of full-service retirement communities in the western United States and Canada, is excited to bring a new community to Portland's lushly forested West Hills in 2018.

Touchmark in the West Hills, nestled on 80 forested acres just three miles from downtown Portland, will feature approximately 270 residences comprised of single-family homes, garden homes, independent apartment homes, and licensed-care homes. The majority of the campus will remain as open space - offering residents such luxuries as walking trails, lakes, vineyards and a winery producing pinot noir, courtyards and plazas, garden plots with a greenhouse, a 40,000 square foot Clubhouse and Health & Fitness Center, and a rooftop terrace.

Job Description

Our Home Care Services team, which will serve residents of Touchmark in the West Hills and will operate out of our beautiful community, is currently seeking compassionate and hospitality-minded people to join us as Home Care Assistants.  This is an incredibly special opportunity to make a positive impact in the life of another person on a daily basis, and to build relationships with some amazing people at the same time.

As a Home Care Assistant, you will assist residents with a variety of daily living activities in the comfort of their own homes - activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming; general housekeeping and laundry tasks; nutritious meal planning and preparation; and grocery shopping, to name a few.  You will also provide something that is so important to everyone: companionship, which may be in the form of reading a book together, going for walks, doing crafts, listening to music together, or just having a simple conversation.

We offer very flexible schedules, but Home Care Assistants must be available to work at least 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

No experience is necessary but ideal candidates must have a heart for serving others, as well as:

  • A commitment to Touchmark's values (hospitality, compassion, excellence, teamwork, and integrity), as well as a desire to model these values and to encourage others to be allies, friends, and givers

  • A high school diploma or equivalent

  • A valid driver's license and current auto insurance coverage

  • A genuine interest in caring for elderly residents and working in a geriatric environment

  • The willingness to continue learning and improving skills, as well as a commitment to confidentiality

  • The ability to maintain patient and tactful composure when dealing with residents, family members, staff members and visitors

Additional Information

Benefits:

Touchmark is dedicated to providing the best for our residents, and it all begins with providing the best for our employees.  That's why we offer a competitive compensation and benefits package to our team members who work 30+ hours per week which includes:

  • Paid time off (including holidays)

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance plans for employees and eligible dependents

  • Education assistance

  • Bonus and retirement plans

  • Health care, dependent care, and commuter Flexible Spending Accounts

  • Employee Resource Program

  • Supplemental insurance options
