Position Description
Independent Contractor – Relationship Education Instructor (< Part-Time, 1099)
Kinship & Commitment Program (KCP)
Compensation
Compensation will be established through the Independent Contractor Agreement and may be based on an hourly rate or negotiated project fee.
The contractor is responsible for all applicable taxes, insurance, licensing, and business expenses associated with providing contracted services.
Contract Overview
The Denver Indian Center, Inc. (DICI) seeks a qualified Independent Contractor to provide relationship education and facilitation services for the Kinship & Commitment Program (KCP), a federally funded initiative that strengthens Native couples and families through evidence-based relationship education, communication skills, and economic stability programming.
The contractor will independently provide facilitation, participant engagement, documentation, and related services using approved curricula while incorporating culturally grounded approaches that honor Indigenous values and kinship systems.
This is a part-time Independent Contractor (1099) position averaging 10–15 hours per week, with services provided as needed, up to 20 hours per week, based on program scheduling, participant enrollment, and grant activities.
Scope of Work
The contractor will provide services that may include:
Curriculum Facilitation

Facilitate evidence-based relationship education and family strengthening curricula approved by the Kinship & Commitment Program (Training Provided).

Lead workshops, talking circles, educational sessions, and experiential learning activities for participating couples and families.

Adapt instructional delivery in culturally appropriate ways while maintaining fidelity to approved curriculum models.

Provide educational guidance, coaching, and referrals to participants within the scope of the program.
Participant Engagement

Assist with participant orientation and engagement activities.

Conduct scheduled participant check-ins as assigned.

Support participant retention through relationship building and consistent communication.

Contribute to the development of culturally responsive educational materials and resource guides.
Community Collaboration

Coordinate with community partners, tribal organizations, and Native-serving agencies to support participant success.

Participate in community outreach, listening sessions, and collaborative meetings as
requested.

Represent the Kinship & Commitment Program professionally and respectfully within the community.
Documentation & Grant Support

Submit participant attendance records, service documentation, and required reports in accordance with program timelines.

Assist with surveys, outcome measures, and other evaluation activities required by the grant.

Maintain accurate documentation while protecting participant confidentiality.
Cultural Responsiveness

Integrate Indigenous teachings, kinship values, and culturally grounded practices throughout program delivery.

Utilize trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive facilitation approaches.

Participate in periodic contractor meetings, curriculum updates, and professional development activities as mutually agreed upon.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Education, Family Studies, Counseling, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience facilitating adult education, relationship education, family strengthening programs, or community-based workshops.

Strong group facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to work respectfully with Native communities while demonstrating cultural humility.

Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills.

Ability to maintain participant confidentiality and comply with grant documentation requirements.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience delivering evidence-based relationship, healthy marriage, family strengthening, or economic stability curricula.

Lived experience or longstanding involvement with the Denver urban Native community.

Experience in case management, peer support, coaching, family engagement, or community wellness programming.

Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and Indigenous approaches to healing and relationship building.
Contract Terms

Independent Contractor (1099)

Flexible hours based on program needs and mutually agreed-upon schedule.

Contractor will invoice DICI according to the terms outlined in the Independent Contractor Agreement.

Contractor is responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes, insurance, and business expenses associated with providing contracted services.

Contractor will provide services in accordance with all applicable grant requirements, confidentiality standards, and program policies.
The contractor will perform services independently while collaborating with the Kinship & Commitment Program team to ensure high-quality, culturally grounded programming that strengthens Native couples, families, and communities.
