Description
The Tribal Community Engagement Coordinator serves as Axiom Care's primary liaison for all Tribes and Pueblos within the New Mexico counties of Cibola, McKinley, San Juan, and Sandoval Counties. This position is responsible for strengthening partnerships, facilitating collaboration, and ensuring communication and collaboration remains responsive to the priorities, strengths, and needs of Tribal communities and Pueblos.
Full-time Exempt
9:00 am to 5:00 pm Days and some evenings/weekends as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strong, trusted relationships with Tribal leadership, Chapter Houses, Pueblos, community leaders, healthcare providers, schools, behavioral health organizations, and community-based organizations throughout rural Northwest New Mexico.
Understand and respond to the unique behavioral health, workforce, geographic, and social challenges facing rural Northern New Mexico and the Tribes and Pueblos within the area.
Lead and support program initiatives that promote behavioral health prevention, suicide prevention, substance use prevention, early intervention, and community wellness.
Ensure partnerships, and community engagement efforts are grounded in Native American values including, self-determination, cultural humility, Tribal sovereignty, and community-defined approaches to healing and wellness.
Serve as a trusted representative within Tribal communities.
Establish and strengthen partnerships with Tribal departments, the Indian Health Service (IHS), 638 Tribal Health Programs, Tribal Behavioral Health Programs, Tribal colleges, schools, Chapter Houses, and Native-led organizations throughout
Collaborate with regional healthcare providers, local governments, community coalitions, and statewide partners to improve coordination and access to behavioral health prevention resources.
Identify opportunities to expand partnerships and strengthen collaboration across Tribes and Pueblos within Cibola, McKinley, San Juan, and Sandoval Counties.
Maintain regular communication with Tribal partners to support relationship building, information sharing, and collaborative problem-solving.
Coordinate and deliver in-person and virtual presentations, community meetings, listening sessions, educational workshops, provider training, and outreach events throughout
Represent Axiom Care within Cibola, McKinley, San Juan, and Sandoval Counties Organization at Tribal meetings, conferences, health fairs, and community events.
Support culturally responsive communication strategies that increase awareness of Healthy Horizons initiatives and available prevention resources.
Facilitate meaningful community participation in regional planning activities and stakeholder engagement efforts.
Advise leadership on Tribal engagement strategies, community priorities, public affairs, and culturally appropriate communication.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive Tribal partner and stakeholder database for program.
Prepare correspondence, meeting summaries, reports, and documentation related to Tribal engagement activities.
Maintain accurate records of community contacts, outreach activities, stakeholder engagement, and partnership development using designated tracking systems.
Collect community feedback and qualitative data to inform regional planning and continuous quality improvement.
Provide consistent updates to the program manager regarding Tribal engagement activities, emerging community needs, partnership opportunities, and challenges requiring follow-up.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the program

Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Native American traditions, values, governance, and Tribal sovereignty, with lived experience or significant professional experience working with Tribal communities preferred.
Understanding of the behavioral health, prevention, healthcare access, and social determinants of health challenges affecting rural Northern New Mexico and Tribal communities.
Experience building collaborative relationships with Tribal governments, Indian Health Service, 638 Tribal Health Programs, Native-led organizations, and community partners.
Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, public speaking, and relationship-building skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences.
Experience coordinating community outreach, stakeholder engagement, coalition building, or community-based initiatives.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, CRM platforms, and virtual meeting technologies.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, maintain documentation, and prepare reports.
Ability to work independently while maintaining consistent communication with Regional Hub leadership.
Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and the ability to travel frequently throughout Cibola, McKinley, San Juan, and Sandoval Counties, including remote Tribal communities.
Residence within the New Mexico Counites of Sandavol, Cibola, San Jaun or McKinely is strongly preferred.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, to accommodate community meetings, Tribal events, and stakeholder engagement activities.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience in community health, behavioral health, or social services.
3-5+ years of professional experience in tribal health, outreach, or community-based recovery systems.
Valid driver license and acceptable driving record
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Travel extensively throughout the Region 1 service area, including rural and Tribal communities, to support Regional Hub activities.
