Are you a creative, motivated student with a passion for storytelling, copywriting, and digital marketing? Do
you want real-world experience that goes beyond the classroom - work that actually moves the needle for a
university you care about? We're looking for a Student Marketing Specialist focused on Content & Writing to
join our team and help shape the way Stony Brook connects with alumni and donors. You'll be embedded in
our fundraising operation, writing the captions, scripts, articles, and donor messaging that our student
ambassadors and team rely on every day. Your words will be read, used, and felt - in real time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Content Creation & Writing
• Write compelling copy - captions, scripts, articles, emails, and donor-facing messaging
- for digital platforms and ambassador use
• Research and audit existing content being produced across SBU
• Build and maintain a templated copy library inside our resource hub: personalized, ready-to-use
messaging that our ambassadors can pull from in real time as they work through their outreach
cadence
• Adapt voice and tone across audiences - from alumni newsletters to social captions to formal
donor communications
Storytelling & Editorial
• Gather content, interview participants, and draft posts that highlight student, faculty, and alumni
stories
• Develop pitches and editorial angles for campaigns and ongoing content series
• Edit and proofread work from team members and student ambassadors for clarity,
accuracy, and brand voice
Marketing & Engagement Support
• Support media planning and content scheduling across platforms
• Assist with updating webpage copy, newsletters, and digital communication materials
• Brainstorm creative ideas for campaigns,series, and engagement strategies

General
• Represent ion Philanthropy and Stony Brook University with professionalism and
enthusiasm
• Maintain accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality in all work
• Meet project deadlines and collaborate effectively with team members
Qualifications
• Currently enrolled student in good academic standing
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats
• Familiarity with social media copywriting and digital marketing best practices (preferred)
• Comfort interviewing people and translating conversationsinto engaging written content
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Reliable, punctual, and organized
• A creative mindset with a genuine passion for digital media, marketing, and making an
impact
Schedule
