Job description

The NISC IV program at Leidos is looking for a Technical Writer/Editor to support multiple Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) programs. We are seeking a talented and energetic candidate to work with the best and brightest employees around the country in creating innovative all-encompassing solutions for our programs. You will work in a fast-paced and diverse environment, enjoy flexible work arrangements, and will have a management team that encourages your career development and growth. In this position, you'll be responsible for writing, editing, proofreading and/or providing writing support on technical documents such as manuals, procedures and technical specifications for technical design teams, clients and/or end-users. Responsibilities may include designing and developing technical manuals, brochures, training materials, or other documentation for internal use, customer reference, or other purposes. This is a part time, hybrid position, based out of the Washington DC area.

Primary Responsibilities.

In this role, the Technical Writer will be responsible for providing editing expertise to assist the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Trainings Needs Assessment Tool (TNAT) program in the publication of developed (and partially developed) policy and guidance documents. Specifically, the Editor/Writer will:

  • Support the revision of documents as the need arises e.g. changes to TNAT functional requirements documents, changes to system design documents, Test Scripts, Standard Operation Procedures etc.

  • Uploading, testing and validating the training data revisions into the TNAT test site and the TNAT production site.

  • Support meetings (or telecons) and prepare meeting minutes or notes and action items as necessary. Draft and distribute notes/agendas as necessary.

  • Updating TNAT application guides, User Guide and Admin Guide

  • Initiate process improvements in documentation in accordance with the client.

  • Standardize organizational documentation.

  • Documenting activities in Monthly Task Order Status Report and Monthly Achievement Reports

  • Preparing and Planning TNAT demonstrations for TechOps and/or Air Traffic Organization (ATO)

  • Support the development and creation of documents and procedures by providing technical writing skills commensurate with current business practices (plain language) and continuous process improvement methodologies.

  • Support groups in the participation of meetings and providing technical writing input for documentation needs.

  • Support the group by documenting meeting and teleconference minutes.

  • Provide input and suggestions for writing style guides and internal standard operating procedures (SOP's) for supported documents.

  • Support the publication preparation process support that includes those steps to finalize an approved document for release to the workforce and the public. This work includes the conversion or encoding of approved documents for release to the FSIMS/DRS Librarian

  • Support for the maintenance and retention of backup files in an electronic format for archival and updating purposes

  • Work as part of a team, supporting the Team Leads and other writer/editors in completing priority projects as designated by the client.

  • Support the production of deliverables as electronic copies of files, reports and products by assigned dates. Acceptable electronic formats are the current versions of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, and Microsoft Project, and Adobe Acrobat

Basic Qualifications.

  • Must have a bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of prior relevant experience or a Masters' with 6 year of experience. However, additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications and publishing tools such as Adobe Acrobat.

  • Must be highly proficient in research and electronic organization skills, and in conducting professional communication with clients.

  • Prior experience working in federal government contracting, FAA is a plus

  • Candidate must be organized and detail-oriented, have strong analytical skills, and is a team player.

  • The selected candidate will have highly developed presentation skills, self-motivation, and will be a proactive team player with excellent written and oral communication skills.
