Compensation: $4.25/bag base unit rate compensation, translating to $22-$35 / hour after training

With a team of over 50 passionate craftspeople and professionals, we serve both individual customers and large business clients. We're profitable, expanding quickly, and deeply committed to our people-first culture where every team member matters.

About The Role

We’re seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Seamster to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in production at Magic Items. You will hand sew leather wallets (vegan leather options are also available) with a needle and thread and take part in weekly Seamster exchange meetings.

What You'll Do

  • Sew vegan-leather wallets according to the instructions we provide.
  • Take part in weekly “Seamster Exchange Meetings,” which includes bringing your work and materials into Magic Items Headquarters (HQ).
  • Receive feedback on work and make any adjustments in person to ensure consistency and quality standards.
  • Take home new work to bring back for the next week.
  • Progress through a tiered production path:
    • Seamster in Training: A 4-week onboarding phase focused on learning basic hand sewing, consistency, and quality.
    • Qualified Seamster: Transition into a long-term role and becoming a fully integrated team member.

Output & Compensation

  • Seamster in Training (Onboarding Phase)
    • Timeframe: Approximately 4 weeks.
    • Target Output: 85–100 bags total.
    • Compensation: $300–$500.
  • Qualified Seamster (Long-term Role)
    • Minimum Weekly Output: 50 bags
    • Weekly Hours: ~ 10 to 30 hours (at Seamster’s discretion)
    • Monthly Compensation: $900–$4,000 (dependent on output)

Prerequisites

  • Experience or interest in hand sewing/embroidery a plus 
  • Enjoys crafting and repetition.
  • Must be based in NYC and able to report to our office in Downtown Brooklyn for 30 minutes during one day of the week (Monday to Friday).
