Organization: St. Mary’s River Watershed Association (SMRWA)

Title: Communications and Administrative Manager

Location: Lexington Park, MD

Job Type: Part-time (32 hours a week); not benefits eligible

Compensation: $24 to $28 per hour (based on experience)

About SMRWA:

The St. Mary’s River Watershed Association is a small, community-centered nonprofit whose mission is "to protect, improve, and promote the sustainability of the St. Mary's River Watershed through the collaborative efforts of economic, agricultural, environmental, social, cultural, political, and recreational stakeholders in the community." Our collaborative research and conservation efforts are designed to enhance ecological resilience and sustainability in the watershed. Our current programs include oyster restoration, educating youth on watershed stewardship, water quality and submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) monitoring, and engaging the community through fairs and festivals, our newsletter, social media, volunteer events, and outreach programming.

Summary:

The St. Mary’s River Watershed Association seeks a motivated and committed Communications and Administrative Manager to support our daily operations and public communications.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or higher (preferred) or comparable work experience
  • At least four years of work experience (preferably in an office setting)
  • General knowledge of environmental sustainability and Chesapeake Bay restoration
  • Commitment to the St. Mary’s River Watershed Association’s mission
  • Experience with WordPress (or other website hosting software), Constant Contact, customer relations management programs, Adobe products (Indesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), and/or donor management programs
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Reliable transportation to and from the office and off-site events (within St. Mary’s County) as required. Hybrid work is possible, but we prefer that the candidate live within St. Mary’s County.
  • Experience with GIS applications, nonprofit accounting and management, grant writing, and fundraising (desired but not required)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all watershed communications by disseminating newsletters, posting on social media, sending out mailers, and ensuring our membership base is informed and active
  • Assist with event planning and administration
  • Manage the office by ordering supplies, troubleshooting technology problems, and coordinating schedules
  • Maintain SMRWA’s website and ensure it is up to date
  • Maintain electronic records of transactions, volunteers, and engagements
  • Engage the community at fairs and festivals, volunteer events, and other outreach activities
  • Track, solicit, and acknowledge donations
  • Report to the Executive Director
  • This position includes occasional weekend and evening work
  • All other duties as assigned
