What side hustle can I do with my truck?

Part time weekend truck drivers can use their trucks for side hustles such as delivery services, moving assistance, or hauling equipment. These opportunities often require a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), proper insurance, and adherence to safety regulations. Utilizing platforms like load boards or gig economy apps can help find additional driving opportunities outside regular shifts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Weekend Truck Driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Weekend Truck Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), a clean driving record, and a solid understanding of safety regulations and routing. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and basic vehicle maintenance is typically required. Strong time management, reliability, and effective communication with dispatch and clients are important soft skills. These competencies ensure timely, safe deliveries and help maintain trust with employers and customers.

What can I expect in terms of work schedule and route assignments as a part-time weekend truck driver?

As a part-time weekend truck driver, your shifts typically occur on Saturdays and Sundays, with hours depending on the employer’s delivery or transport needs. Route assignments are often planned in advance, and you may be responsible for local or regional deliveries to maximize efficiency over the weekend. While weekend routes can be busy due to increased demand, many employers strive to provide predictable schedules to help drivers balance other commitments. You’ll also likely collaborate with dispatchers and warehouse staff to ensure timely pickups and deliveries, and clear communication is key to managing any challenges that arise during your runs.

What is the 60 70 rule in trucking?

The 60/70 rule in trucking refers to a guideline for managing driver hours, where drivers should aim to drive no more than 60 hours in 7 consecutive days or 70 hours in 8 days to stay within federal regulations. For part-time weekend truck drivers, understanding this rule helps ensure compliance with hours-of-service limits and safe driving practices.

What is a part time weekend truck driver?

A part time weekend truck driver is a professional who operates commercial trucks, typically hauling goods or materials, but works primarily on weekends rather than during the standard weekday schedule. These drivers may work for transportation companies, delivery services, or as independent contractors, covering routes that require weekend delivery or pickup. The role is ideal for individuals seeking supplemental income or those who can only commit to working on weekends due to other obligations. Duties include inspecting vehicles, following safety regulations, loading and unloading cargo, and maintaining delivery schedules. Strong driving skills, a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), and adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations are usually required.
