Position Title
Skilled Trades- Boiler Tender
FLSA

Primary Responsibilities
Operate high/medium/low pressure boilers. Maintain and operate all equipment in the heating plant as directed. Install, maintain, adjust, modify and perform major overhaul and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems by interpreting blueprints, manufacturer specifications, written and verbal instructions. Apply thorough knowledge of one or more of the accepted trades with a basic knowledge of three others. Applicable trades include carpenter, painter, electrician, plumber, fleet mechanic, boiler tender, HVAC Technician. Apply skill in the use of tools and equipment and be responsible for tools, materials, and devices to perform tasks according to accepted practices. Perform related duties as required to accomplish tasks.
DUTIES PERFORMED:
In addition to the requirements for personal conduct, which are common to all positions in the University, the following duties outline the major factors of the position. They are not all inclusive, do not set priority sequence, or establish a ration for work to be performed. They may vary in importance and may be altered within the general framework of the Primary Function to satisfy changes in department activity.
Operation of high/medium/low pressure boilers
Regulation of central heating system steam flow
Cleans, lubricates and maintains equipment
Reads gauges, charts, and cleans and maintains same
Operates and maintains the water make-up system, including daily testing as required
Inspection of pumps and motors
Performs the work in the operation of the steam generating plant
Operation of steam turbine and electrical generation system
Operation of energy management systems
Perform daily and all other routine building maintenance and housekeeping as required
Performs other duties as required
Schedule: The work schedule is a flexible, rotating schedule
Location: Central Heating Plant
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School diploma (or equivalent) required.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in journeyman trades level work is required. May consider specific coursework related to this position toward the journeyman trades experience along with other professional trades work experience. Preference for work experience with high and low pressure boilers.
Skills Required: Ability and willingness to follow routine verbal and written instructions. Ability to verbalize or write reports/forms necessary to the job. Valid drivers license. Must be able to meet University requirements to be authorized to drive University
vehicles. Required operation of equipment related to the trade. Required bending, heavy lifting, climbing ladders and stairs.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree in HVAC Technology, Electrical Technology or Mechanical Technology.
Salary
$19.78-$28.09/hr. Level E SEIU The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
