Job description

LPN - Med/Surg/Tele Part-Time

Guthrie Corning Medical Center is hiring for a part-time LPN to work and care for our medical/surgical/telemetry patients on the 2C nursing unit. This position is scheduled to work 24.0 hours/week and 48.0 hours/pay period and is eligible for benefits. We utilize the team nursing model which allows you to work at the top scope of your nursing license. In addition to working with your primary registered nurse and patient care partner, your patients are supported by our multidisciplinary teams consisting of social work, care coordinators, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy and palliative care. The 2C nursing unit consists of 24 beds with central monitoring capabilities.

Position Summary: Assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice working within and to the maximum scope of license

Education, License & Cert: LPN license based on corresponding position location

Experience: Oneyear experience in healthcare field preferred but not required

Essential Functions: 1. Directs patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam or treatment by identifying height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, additional testing, and records same on chart. Will also interview patient to obtain history allergies, reconciles medication list and records on chart as requested. 2. Write or call Rx after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed. Chart as written in patient's chart 3. Email, fax or call in any insurance referrals. Follow up phone call with referral number to specialist if requested. 4. Assists in smooth departmental operation by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistant and MOA's as requested. Answers telephone and performs other clerical functions as necessary (screen calls according to urgency and need). Must train and maintain proficiency in the use of computer equipment and other computer program training as requested. Attends to exam and procedure rooms, including assurance that proper supplies are on hand, maintain order and cleanliness. Order medications or clinical supplies for the department as requested. 6. Administers prescribed injections/medications and records them on patient's chart 7. Routes patient after exam to proper area for ancillary testing or followup appointments, i.e. Blood work, xrays, and enter lab testing as requested. 8. Basic knowledge of medications (side effects/contraindications, etc.) 9. Be able to read and review pathology results with patients 10. Setup and tear down sterile fields 11. Basic knowledge of surgical instruments 12. Prepare surgical trays as needed for procedures for the day. 13. Assist surgeon with operative procedures both in the office and Operating Room if necessary 14. Maintain infection control measures including but not limited to proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of autoclave 15. Proficient with autoclave sterilization process 16. Knowledge and proficiency of dressing changes and suture removal 17. Assess signs and symptoms of infection and reporting to surgeon and/or provider 18. Hepatitis checks and protocol to protect surgeon, patient, and nurse

Other Duties: 1. As assigned as appropriate for LPN licensure 2. Attend new employee orientation and all mandatory events such as inservices, classes, training as required by the organization 3. Complies with the dress code policy as set forth by Guthrie 4. Attends and participates in Department meetings, along with contributing to department/office goals.

Pay Range for this position is $26.25 - $38.50/hour depending on experience
