Benefits Job Description
The Fitness Center Lead Assistant supports the Fitness Center Manager with Open Recreation operations and patron services, including advising patrons on proper use of exercise equipment.
Duties include, but are not limited to, providing customer service to Fitness Center patrons; enforcing Fitness Center rules and safety standards; maintaining an organized, clean, and safe environment; serving as first responder in emergency situations following College protocol; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. Work is generally performed on the College campus unless otherwise specified.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position.
Your application to this position will remain active through December 31 of the current year. If you are not selected by that time, you must reapply to be considered. If you apply on or after November 1 of the current year, your application will remain active through December 31 of the following calendar year.
Required Education
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with CPR/AED certification and certification in fitness and/or personal training.
Required Experience
A minimum of 1 year of work experience in the fitness industry.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of CPR/AED and first aid procedures to serve as a first responder during emergencies and ensure patron safety.
  • Must be able to clearly explain Fitness Center rules, provide guidance, and address patron questions or concerns in a professional and friendly manner
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with fitness instruction experience.
General Weekly Work Schedule
The work schedule varies according to the Open Recreation schedule and may include day, evening and weekend hours, not to exceed 9 hours per week.
The hours of part-time, as-needed employees are limited to a total of less than 500 hours in each fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).
