Job Summary
Paid KUER Robert K. Avery Internship, 2026-2027, Aug. 24, 2026 - May 14, 2027. KUER 90.1, Utah's largest NPR affiliate, is seeking an advanced student for an intensive, year-long news and production internship.
The first half of this internship will take place in the fall semester at RadioWest, KUER's premiere bi-weekly news interview program. Starting in January, the second half will take place in KUER's newsroom, assisting with coverage of the Utah Legislature's 2027 general session. After the session concludes in March, the intern will work on daily news production.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work 12-16 hours per week assisting in research, news gathering, writing, interviews and production of daily stories on deadline for broadcast and for the web.
Minimum Qualifications
Department Specific Qualifications:
  • Excellent writing and research skills, as well as a demonstrated interest and familiarity with Utah news and politics, are required.
  • The ideal applicant will have some print or audio reporting experience and basic audio editing skills.
  • Familiarity with creating vertical video content is a plus.
  • Students should be juniors or seniors from the University of Utah Department of Communications.
  • This job posting is only available to University of Utah students.
