What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Part Time Video Editing position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Video Editor, you need proficiency in video editing software (such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve) and a keen eye for storytelling, pacing, and visual aesthetics. Familiarity with motion graphics, basic color correction, and audio editing tools is often required, along with a relevant portfolio or certification in media production. Strong time management, creativity, and communication skills help editors meet deadlines and effectively respond to feedback. These strengths are essential for producing polished, engaging video content that aligns with client or employer objectives while balancing flexibility in a part-time role.

What is the 3:2:1 rule in video editing?

The 3:2:1 rule in video editing is a guideline for color grading, suggesting that a balanced color palette should include three primary colors, two secondary colors, and one accent color to create visually appealing footage. For part-time video editors, understanding color harmony and using editing tools like Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve can help apply this principle effectively.

Is AI replacing video editors?

AI tools are increasingly used in video editing to automate tasks like cutting, color correction, and effects, but they do not fully replace human video editors. Skilled editors are still essential for creative decision-making, storytelling, and nuanced editing that requires artistic judgment. Part-time video editors often leverage these tools to enhance efficiency but rely on their expertise for final quality and originality.

What is the 80 20 rule in video editing?

The 80/20 rule in video editing suggests that roughly 80% of the final video is achieved with 20% of the editing effort, emphasizing the importance of focusing on key scenes and essential adjustments. For part-time video editors, understanding this principle helps prioritize tasks and improve efficiency using editing tools like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.

How much do video editors make hourly?

Video editors typically earn between $15 and $35 per hour, depending on experience, location, and project complexity. Freelance editors may set their own rates, while those working for companies often have standardized pay scales. Skills in editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro can influence earning potential.

What is a Part Time Video Editing job?

A Part Time Video Editing job involves editing and assembling video footage, adding effects, transitions, and audio to create polished content. Editors may work on projects such as social media videos, advertisements, short films, or corporate presentations. This role typically offers flexible hours and can be remote or on-site, depending on the employer. Part-time video editors need proficiency in editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve. Strong attention to detail and creativity are essential for producing high-quality videos.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for someone in a Part Time Video Editing position?

As a Part Time Video Editor, your daily tasks may include assembling raw footage, editing video and audio, adding graphics or effects, and preparing final exports based on project requirements. You may collaborate remotely or in person with producers, content creators, or marketing teams to align the video content with brand guidelines and messaging. Job description

About the Company

RNGD is a rapidly scaling organization emerging as a nationally recognized leader in construction through our unique Renegade mindset focused on innovation, creativity, and culture. The team is made up of a highly engaged group of seasoned professionals and emerging leaders. We are creators who believe that what we build drives the growth of our cities and that to fulfill our mission, we must constantly challenge the old way of doing things. Headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, we thrive on building communities, building teams, building leaders, and growing the business throughout the Southeast region with offices in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama.

About the Role

Launch your career with RNGD! As a part-time Marketing Intern, you'll join a lean, fast-moving three-person marketing team — embedded in a company that actually has something worth talking about. You'll get hands-on experience in social media, content creation, and visual storytelling — producing real work that shows up on real channels. This isn't a coffee-and-copies internship. You'll be in the field, behind the camera, and in the edit.

Internship Experience Opportunities

  • Tell the Story: Assist in developing social media content — from concept to caption — for LinkedIn, Instagram, and other platforms, helping bring the RNGD brand to life.
  • Maintain the Feed: Help manage content calendars, draft copy, schedule posts, and monitor engagement to keep RNGD's social presence active and consistent.
  • Support Campaigns: Assist the marketing team on campaigns, award submissions, press initiatives, and branded publications like the Renegade Journal.
  • Edit & Produce: Support video editing and post-production for short-form content, project spotlights, and event recaps.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with the Graphic Designer on visual assets and support the Marketing Manager and Marketing Director on a variety of brand and business development initiatives such as creation of marketing collateral, presentations, community partnerships, and special initiatives.
  • Shoot & Create: Capture photo and video content on job sites, at company events, and in the office — contributing to RNGD's brand presence across social media and digital channels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Academic Focus: Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Film/Media Production, or related field preferred.
  • Visual Eye: Portfolio or examples of photo/video work — even personal projects — strongly encouraged.
  • Social Savvy: Familiarity with LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and short-form video content creation.
  • Tech Skills: Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Canva, or similar editing tools a plus.
  • Proactive Attitude: Self-starter who takes initiative, asks good questions, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Preference given to rising juniors, seniors, and recent graduates; however, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Available to work in-office 16–20 hours per week, with additional hours available based on workload and availability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience creating content for social media, websites, newsletters, or other marketing channels.
  • Interest in construction, engineering, architecture, real estate, or related industries is a plus.

Core Competencies

  • RNGD Values Alignment
    • Exemplifies RNGD’s core values:
      • Renegade Mentality
      • Sweep Floors

    • Proactively seeks opportunities to collaborate and innovate.
    • Takes a methodical approach to planning daily activities.
    • Manages time and resources effectively to meet deadlines.
    • Adapts quickly to rapidly changing technology and leverages it for efficiency.

  • Collaborative and Communicative
    • Establishes cooperative, trusting relationships with colleagues and business contacts.
    • Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude while working as part of a team.
