Job description

Full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Technician in Training Needed

Our hospital is an AAHA accredited small animal veterinary facility currently located in the South Reno area and we are having a growth spurt!

We are looking for an experienced LVT or TIT to join our team! We believe in hiring for the right fit and building a team that works well together to provide gold standard care to our patients. We push for these standards while also providing that “small town” environment where clients feel like family and can make themselves at home. We focus not just on our patient care, but our relationships with all of our clients.

At our hospital, our LVTs and TITs do not just assist the veterinarians. They are given the opportunity to put their skills to very good use. Although you will of course be working under the supervision of a veterinarian at all times, you will be expected to execute tasks independently and help lead the assistants on staff in an efficient manner and provide appropriate care to all patients.

We are a small animal and exotics medicine practice offering preventative medicine, surgery, dentistry, and emergency/urgent care as well as occasional house calls. We have digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray, digital ultrasound, therapeutic laser, and in-house laboratory. This position is full-time, but we are also accepting part-time and per diem applicants.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Skilled patient handling - we are heavily motivated to provide a fear free environment for our patients and always keep everyone’s safety in mind

  • Anesthesia preparation, induction, and monitoring

  • Fluid administration

  • General and specialized nursing care

  • Perform laboratory testing and acquire digital radiographs

  • Prepare and dispense medications from pharmacy

  • Familiarizing oneself with our computer software in order to input data and communicate with clients

  • Ability to be able recognize a patient in distress/in pain/needing intervention during anesthesia or in general during their stay at the hospital

  • Regular attendance and punctuality are a must

Skills should include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Current licensure as a Veterinary Technician or Technician in Training in the state of Nevada

  • 2+ years experience as an LVT or TIT

  • Routine scheduling, intake, and in hospital care of patients and related procedures

  • Knowledge of supplies and basic inventory - ordering supplies/ensure supplies are listed to be on order before running out, be able to be tasked to do ordering

  • Identifying supplies/instruments and being knowledgeable of their care - wrapping packs, layout/preparation for different surgeries, aftercare like proper cleaning and autoclave operation for sterilization

  • Communication with clients in a professional, warm, caring, and informative manner

  • Working well with team members being able to constructively take on a leadership role when needed and also allow the current staff to guide you to learn about how our clinic works

  • Adapting to the hospital’s infrastructure and abiding by our current P&P

Benefits are based on average wages and level of experience, but are negotiable:

  • Health, dental and vision insurance

  • PTO

  • Competitive CE allowance

  • Full licensure allowance

  • Pet care discounts

  • Schedule is negotiable, but would include a “4, 10s” type schedule initially Monday-Friday

  • Potential for 1-2 Saturdays per month, but when this occurs, benefits would be renegotiated as work-life balance is truly important, especially in this field

  • Starting wage is $22-28 per hour, but can be negotiable depending on experience level and current pay

  • Salary is also an option

We want to hear from you. Send us your resume and thoughts through email and let’s get to know each other better. Please send everything to our practice owner, Dr. Taormina.
