JOB DESCRIPTION

Van Driver

typically drive daily from 6:00am - 8-:30am and 2:00pm - 4:30PM
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; possess valid driver's license and excellent driving record; must be able to pass a physical examination; possess personal attributes of honesty, ingenuity, diligence, reliability and dependability.
Job Summary: Drive school vehicle to transport students to/from school following specified routes and to/from special school-related excursions as assigned; ensures the safety of all students from pick up to drop off. Complies with all traffic regulations.
Major Duties & Responsibilities: Would include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:
  1. Drive assigned school vehicle in a safe, professional manner including complying with all traffic ordinances. Show proficiency in handling and maneuvering a passenger van.
  2. Perform and properly complete daily pre-trip inspections of vehicle, and inform maintenance department of any improper function at the earliest practical time after discovery.
  3. Report observations and/or incidents (e.g., discipline, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel. Comply with all discipline policies.
  4. Must be sensitive to confidential information (e.g., student medical records, student disabilities, etc.).
  5. Assist students and other passengers (e.g. seating, restraints, special equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from vehicles including both emergency situations and normal transport.
  6. Build and maintain positive relationships with the students assigned to the route.
  7. Effectively communicate with parents and school staff regarding student concerns, changes to the route and/or other pertinent information.
  8. Maintain assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior (e.g. cleaning floors/windows/seats, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.
  9. Responsible for adding fuel to vehicle to ensure sufficient quantities for regular/extra runs.
  10. Responsible for written daily student attendance paperwork and monthly mileage sheets that must be submitted to transportation office one time per month.
  11. Attend training as required to perform job.
