Position Summary:
The Unit Secretary is responsible for the coordination of non-clinical aspects of the nursing unit.
Principal Duties and Essential Functions:
  1. Coordinates and facilitates all intra and interdepartmental patient activities. Organizes patient flow on the unit.
  2. Answers and coordinates response to patient call light and phone calls.
  3. Organizes and accurately maintains the unit census/assignment log book and patient board. Completes the patient classification shift report.
  4. Communicates patient information or changes affecting the unit to the appropriate personnel. Maintains patient medical record from admission to discharge. Communicates to appropriate departments, patient admission, discharge, or transfer.
  5. Responsible for accurate transcription of patient orders

Job Requirements
Education:
HS degree minimum required.
Required Work Experience:
1 year of administrative/secretarial experience required. Medical Terminology required. Hospital experience strongly preferred.
