Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Ergonomist with industrial and applied ergonomics experience to support a handful of Apex's key clients. Projects are scattered nationwide and will involve a wide range of routine ergonomic support as well as providing quality deliverables in a timely manner. This is a part-time, traveling role (up to 50%) - with expense covered and is ideal for an experienced professional who excels in practical, field-based ergonomics and enjoys working directly with groups such as; operations, safety, engineering, facilities, labor, leadership and other stakeholders.

The Senior Ergonomist leads the delivery of comprehensive ergonomic services, including assessments, solution design, and end-to-end implementation. This role partners closely with clients to identify risk factors, develop innovative and practical interventions, and drive projects through completion. While the primary focus is within industrial manufacturing and warehouse environments, the position also supports a diverse portfolio of clients across multiple industries. The Senior Ergonomist plays a key role in reducing musculoskeletal injury risk, optimizing operational performance, and advancing overall workforce health and safety.---

Key Responsibilities

· Conduct on-site ergonomic assessments in industrial environments (e.g., manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, logistics, construction, utilities).

· Identify, evaluate, and prioritize ergonomic risk factors related to manual material handling, repetitive tasks, awkward postures, vibration, and forceful exertions.

· Develop practical, cost-effective ergonomic solutions, including engineering controls, administrative controls, and tool/equipment recommendations.

· Collaborate with EHS, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to implement ergonomic improvements.

· Apply published design standards on workstation design, equipment selection, process changes, and job/task design.

· Support injury prevention efforts, including analysis of MSD trends, root cause investigations, and return-to-work accommodations.

· Prepare concise technical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations either within our clients' various reporting systems or as a standalone report.

· Stay current on ergonomics standards, best practices, and regulatory expectations relevant to industrial work.

· Support and maintain strong communications between our clients and our Apex leadership.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree or higher in Ergonomics, Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health, or a related field.

· 10+ years of professional ergonomics experience, with an emphasis on industrial settings.

· Demonstrated expertise in:

  • Manual material handling analysis
  • Task and job hazard analysis
  • Ergonomic assessment tools (e.g., REBA, RULA, NIOSH Lifting Equation, Strain Index)

· Proven ability to for project management resulting in implementation of solutions that objectively improve injury risk or process efficiency.

· Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and influence front-line workers through senior leadership.

· Willingness and ability to travel regularly (with per diem expenses covered for assignments) for a few days up to multi-week stays in various locations across the US.

· Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);

· Professional certification (e.g., CPE, CIE, CSP, CIH, PT, OT).

· Experience working within EHS or injury prevention programs.

· Familiarity with manufacturing processes, automation, heavy equipment, and material handling systems.

· Experience supporting multi-site or enterprise-level ergonomics programs.

· Ability to walk industrial facilities, climb stairs/ladders, and observe physical work activities.

· Ability to lift light equipment (e.g., measurement tools, laptops).

· Willingness to travel frequently (50%), including overnight stays.

Job Location:

Seattle / Puget Sound area is optimal, but remote support could be acceptable with travel (easy access to an airport is a must).

Travel Expectations:

Travel will be up to 50% with variation depending on stage of the project and need for on-site presence.

Compensation:

As a Part Time Variable role, the hourly salary range for this role is $60/hr - $80/hr (commensurate based on experience)
