Job Description
Position Description:
Valparaiso University is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Night Shift Transportation Driver to support campus operations. This role is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation services to students, staff, and community members, particularly during evening and late-night hours. The position plays a key role in promoting campus safety and delivering excellent customer service.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide on-demand safety shuttle services for students across campus during evening and late-night hours
  • Assist with transportation needs for university events and community functions
  • Safely operate a 14-passenger bus
  • Utilize a smartphone application to manage ride requests and service calls
  • Perform pre-shift vehicle inspections and report mechanical issues
  • Operate a wheelchair lift to assist injured/ADA passengers as needed
  • Communicate effectively using two-way radio systems
  • Provide training and mentorship to new bus drivers as needed

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience driving large or extended wheelbase vehicles preferred
  • Must possess a valid U.S. state-issued driver's license

Other Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Strong verbal communication, listening, and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively and perform well under pressure
  • Knowledge of Indiana traffic laws and safe driving practices
  • Ability to operate larger vehicles, including in adverse weather conditions
