Basic Functions
Flexible, On-Call Work That Makes a Difference
Santa Barbara City College's Athletic Department is seeking dependable, professional individuals to join our Athletics Transportation Team. Successful applicants will be added to our on-call employee pool and offered assignments as team travel needs arise throughout the academic year. The hiring and onboarding process takes approximately two weeks and includes DMV Screening, HR paperwork, a TB test, and Live Scan fingerprinting. After receiving HR clearance, employees will complete a required, paid training with the Athletic Director (R-2 Training) and Athletics Administrative Assistant. Once training is complete, you'll be eligible to accept assignments as they become available and can choose to work as many-or as few-assignments as fit your schedule.
Position Details
  • Temporary, hourly position
  • On-call, day/evening shifts, as-needed
  • Up to 19.5 hours per week
  • Up to 175 days per fiscal year
  • Pay for 2026-27:
    • Fall: $16.90 per hour
    • Spring $18.64 per hour

Representative Duties
What You'll Do
You'll help ensure our teams have a safe, professional journey to and from athletic events. Depending on the event and the needs of each team, you may provide one or more of the following services:
  • Acquire keys and check out the vehicle from the Administrative Assistant
  • Complete the Vehicle Use Agreement
  • Purchase gasoline and return receipt to Administrative Assistant immediately upon return with the completed Vehicle Use Agreement
  • Be at the team meeting spot 30 minutes prior to departure
  • Map the safest / fastest route to your destination
  • Provide transportation to and from the event venue, staying at the venue during the event in case of emergency
  • Provide transportation for coaches to pick up team meals, or drive to pick up meals yourself if coaches are unable to leave the venue
  • Provide transportation to team breakfast, lunch, or dinner
  • Occasionally, overnight trips may be requested

Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
  • Class C driver's license with a Passenger Endorsement
  • Clean DMV Record
Bus driving experience preferred
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Ability to drive safely and follow the rules of the road
  • Ability to represent SBCC Athletics professionally
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to six hours one way
  • Ability to work long days; can be 6am to 10pm
