Position Summary
This part-time instructional position has responsibility for planning, preparation, and presentation of quality instruction in Funeral Service Education, and for otherwise contributing to the fulfillment of the College's mission. This position reports to the Funeral Service Education Program Coordinator.
In most cases, part-time instructors will receive $700.00 per credit hour.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provides instruction in the appropriate teaching environment(s) and evaluates student learning.
  2. Responsible for class preparation.
  3. Participates in curriculum development and evaluation and recommends new or revised curriculum.
  4. Provides academic and professional advising to students regarding the courses.
  5. Provides support to maintain all accreditation standards and conditions pertaining to instruction and research in funeral service set forth by the American Board of Funeral Service Education.
  6. Performs department/program responsibilities as assigned.
  7. Participates in specialized training and experience in funeral service practice to enable proper instruction in the classroom set forth by the American Board of Funeral Service Education and the College.
  8. Performs institutional responsibilities which contribute to the fulfillment of the College's mission.
  9. Follows institutional policies and procedures and fulfills the terms of employment.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university required
  • Graduate of an American Board of Funeral Service Education Accredited Program required

Experience:
  • Minimum of three years of full-time experience in Funeral Service field, including one year of embalming experience

Licenses:
  • Valid Funeral Director and Embalmer licenses required (Embalming License must be in the state in which he/she is teaching.)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Current knowledge in one's area of responsibility
  • A commitment to teaching and to helping students, an abiding interest in the respective field, and a desire to help the College maintain the standards appropriate to an institution of higher education
  • Ability to maintain rapport with colleagues, students, and others using a high level of professionalism
  • Working knowledge of instructional technology and distance learning concepts
