SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers , , and in , including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking qualified part time instructors to teach in the Computing and Software Development (CSD) program. All instructor positions require two years' work experience; college teaching experience and industry certifications are preferred. Experience required in two or more of the following areas:

This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future part-time faculty vacancies. The college hires part-time faculty on a quarter by quarter basis, dependent on enrollment. If you're selected for an interview for a potential future vacancy, a college representative will contact you.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals and approved curriculum
  • Deliver learning experiences appropriate for adult learners using a variety of teaching methods
  • Develop and teach lessons which foster and support cultural diversity and non-discrimination
  • Develop classroom and lab procedures in conformance with identified policies and procedures
  • Guide students to resources for tutoring, study skills, research, information literacy, and support services
  • Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements
  • Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students
  • Post the class syllabus and students' grades via the online course system (currently Canvas)

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field required; Masters preferred
  • 2 years full-time related work experience
  • Expert knowledge in at least two programming/scripting languages such as C++, PHP, Java, C#, Javascript, SQL, JQuery, HTML/CSS; experience with mobile device development
  • College teaching experience preferred
  • Prior eLearning and learning management system (LMS) experience desirable
  • Industry certifications preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations

  • Previous experience with an online course system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle) preferred

Compensation
Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.

CORRECTIONS OR EXTENDED NOTICES

A part time faculty member becomes eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more of in-class teaching at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time. A part time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options. Sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) per month.
