Description ****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or Instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to one calendar year for part-time employees.

Title: (Casual Hire) Science & Technology Support Librarian Position Number: ****Casual Hire**** Hiring Unit: University of Hawaii at Manoa Library Services, Hamilton Library, Science & Technology Reference Department Location: Manoa Date Posted: 08/05/2026 Closing Date: Continuous recruitment Salary: $34.79 per hour Schedule: Up to 19 hours per week Full Time/Part Time: Part Time Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Duties and Responsibilities Provides reference services at the Science and Technology Reference Desk during regular service hours. Regular service hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m

Reference services include assisting patrons at the Reference desk, responding to telephone and email reference inquiries, and performing other reference-related tasks. Library instruction and collection development for all areas of the sciences with a focus on supporting the School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene or the College of Engineering. Works collegially with librarians, staff, and student interns.

Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program. Desirable Qualifications At least 6 months of reference desk experience either as a librarian or as an LIS student intern.

Experience in a science, technical, or medical library; or, an undergraduate degree in a scientific or technical discipline; or, graduate coursework in a scientific or technical discipline.
