Job description


We are looking for a talented School to Work to join our team specializing in Purchasing for our Cummins Inc. facility in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
  • This will be an entry level school to work role supporting the purchasing team.
  • This School-to-Work opportunity provides hands-on experience supporting the Technical Sourcing Team with key Value Product Introduction (VPI) activities.
  • Responsibilities include assisting with supplier communications, creating Requests for Quotation (RFQs), initiating should-cost and PPAP requests, updating purchasing and cost tracking documents, supporting engineering releases, and setting up new parts in procurement systems for manufacturing and aftermarket operations.
  • Utilizes a basic knowledge of supply chain management and engineering principles to support the technical sourcing product development activities. Helps to support the technical sourcing team in tactical work.

Responsibilities
Education:
Must be a high school junior or senior, college or university
Classes must align with job requisition
Experience:
Must be at least 16 years of age
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrates attention to detail, organization, and time management.
Self-motivated, results-oriented, and eager to learn procurement systems and sourcing processes in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Qualifications

*This is a part-time position, limited to 19 hours per week which is designed to support your school schedule.
  • Assists the Technical Sourcing Team with key VPI Deliverables including but not limited to sending packaging data sheet requests to suppliers, creating Requests for Quotation (RFQs), Initiating Should-Cost requests, Creating PPAP requests, updating the VPI Purchasing Matrix and Costed Bill of Material, working Engineering Releases, and setting up the new design parts in the procurement systems for the manufacturing site(s) and aftermarket parts distribution centers.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to learn and master the procurement systems and processes
  • Supports in obtaining input of project leadership, suppliers, product engineers, or technology teams to ensure delivery of robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity.
  • Assists with analyses in support of the technical product specialist working in business processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI) and other new product development activity.
  • Coordinate business documents to support supplier agreements required to protect intellectual properties.
  • Engages with project teams and engineering to understand needs for new suppliers and technologies and connects engineering with the appropriate sourcing team.
  • For defined projects, supports as the procurement team member and assists to meet the required procurement deliverables.
  • Prepares information for management and functional reviews.
  • Supports to establish preliminary new product program sourcing strategies for Product Preceding Technology (PPT) or other projects that are moving to VPI.
