Job description

Responsible for assisting library staff with a variety of tasks, this role requires someone who works well as part of team, provides great customer service, and wants to be part of providing a key service to our community. Applicants must be minimum 16 years of age at time of employment. No prior library experience required.

This position is part-time and does not qualify for benefits. Primary Objectives Performs basic work checking in, sorting and shelving books. Processing new items for shelving and simple repairs.

Assists library staff with miscellaneous tasks; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned. Supervision Exercised None PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs opening procedures, ensuring spaces, systems, and service points are ready for patrons and staff. Completes closing duties and related tasks as assigned, ensuring spaces are orderly, systems are powered down, funds are balanced, and the premises are secured.

Answers incoming calls, provides basic information, and routes callers to the appropriate staff or service area. Collects books from behind circulation desk and sorts for appropriate selection; shelves books, reference materials, and audio books and videos; organizes newspapers and magazines; checks in materials collected from the outdoor book-drop overnight. Reads shelves to locate books out of place; re-checks materials using library computer system and re-shelves in proper location; shifts materials as necessary.

Processes newly received materials by stamping, covering, applying security strips, and labeling. Processes and mends materials by replacing or changing spine labels and repairing or replacing cases for audio/video materials; recycles discarded books and other materials. May help train volunteers and staff.

Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public. Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be at least 16 years of age at date of employment CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES None WORKING CONDITIONS/ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS WORKING CONDITIONS The characteristics listed below are representative of the physical demands, physical agility, sensory requirements, and environmental exposures required by an individual to successfully perform the essential duties of this position.

Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g

business office, light traffic). Work has no exposure to adverse environmental conditions. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
