Summary of PositionOverall duties and responsibilities are assisting the Building Trades/Maintenance Technology Instructor with all classes and laboratory activities in a professional manner, assisting students on an individual and group basis. Assisting the Building Trades/Maintenance Technology Instructor in ensuring that the instructional programs of the Maintenance Technology/Building Trades Department are of the highest quality, refiecting current technology.
Education and ExperienceHigh School or GED Certificate required.
• One (1) year of direct or related paid work experience in the Building Construction Field
OR Certificate of Completion or A/AS Degree in the Build Construction Field.
Knowledge Skills and Ability- Working experience and be able to perform all tasks related to the residential and light industrial building trades industry which include: blue print reading, use of construction materials, site preparation , frame, floor, wall and roof construction, concrete forms, interior and exterior trims, finish work, cabinet work, door and window construction and installation, plumbing application and installation, electrical wiring, painting and refinishing, working with concrete, brick and blocks, use of wall coverings, use of building, plumbing and electrical codes, and cost estimating. Must know how to use mathematics associated with the building trades industry, know how to use hand and power tools, and precision measuring tools associated with the building construction industry.
- Perform repairs and periodic maintenance on equipment assigned to the Building Trades/ Maintenance Technology Department.
- Possess pleasant personality and be able to work with people with limited supervision and some management and basic computer skills.
- Answer office telephone and communicate information to callers.
- Communicate in the English language (read, write, speak), able to explain building and construction theories and applications in a manner that students can understand. Must be able to write legibly.
- Become familiar with OSHA, HAZMAT regulations and requirements.
Essential Functions- Dedicated and effective lab assistant that assists the Building Trades/Maintenance Technology Instructor in a professional manner.
- To be professional in dress and appearance at all times, present a pleasant personality when dealing with students and other staff and faculty members.
- Present and on time for each laboratory assigned except in cases of personal illness or inquiry, death in the immediate family or other authorized absence.
- Monitor laboratory activities for safety infractions and assist students in the performance of laboratory and classroom exercises.
- Supervise issuing and return of all supplies, tools, and equipment used in laboratory exercises.
- Identify any supply and equipment needs to operate the program.
- Clean-up laboratories, office and classroom and properly store and secure equipment and training aids.
- Safely and properly operate all tools and equipment and perform repairs and periodic maintenance on equipment assigned to the Building Trades Department.
- Meet Central Texas College professional development requirements.
- Perform other functions/duties that may be assigned by the Building Trades/Maintenance Technology Instructor or Department Chair
