Scope of Job
Dr. Batholomew Chireh at the Department of Health Sciences, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, on the Edinburg Campus, invites applications for a part-time contract Graduate Research Assistant position. The successful applicant will be involved in various research projects, but I will expect most of his/her work will be dedicated towards a pilot study assessing ergonomic risk factors and heat exposure as determinants of musculoskeletal disorders and mental wellbeing among port personnel in the Rio Grande Valley.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
This position is for scholarly research and may include the following responsibilities:
• Assist with research duties including literature reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, data collection, data analysis, report writing, and preparation for presentations
• Assist with project management, including coordinating research activities, organizing databases for research project tasks, and social media projects to reach and obtain participants.
• Schedule and interact with research participants
• Develop research-related materials as needed (i.e., Recruitment announcements, training materials, protocols, etc.)
• Essential knowledge for Microsoft Excel and Word
• Have an interest in conducting qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods of research in various areas, including, but not limited to, ergonomic risk, musculoskeletal injuries, mental health
• Other related duties as assigned
• Duties will vary depending on the project and/or assigned research, scholarly functions, or other creative aspects
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Follow confidentiality guidelines as per study protocols
• Well-developed written and oral communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Approachable, confident, and pleasant demeanor
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous work experience as a research assistant considered an asset
• Successful completion of research related courses or demonstrated knowledge of research processes
