University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Libraries is seeking a creative, collaborative, and forward-thinking librarian to join our team at Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences. In this role, you will partner with researchers, clinicians, and students to support evidence-based practice and advance scholarly work through expert searching and systematic review services. We are looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, embraces innovation, and brings a strong user-first mindset to everything they do.
Job Summary / About the Role
As the Health Sciences & Systematic Review Librarian, you will:
Serve as a trusted resource for health sciences faculty, students, and staff.
Provide reference services and in-depth consultations in person and online.
Lead and support research teams with systematic reviews and evidence synthesis projects from protocol development to publication.
Perform advanced literature searches and peer-review search strategies (e.g. in-house, PRESS).
Advise on resources, software, citation managers, and data sources for systematic reviews.
Collaborate across library units to ensure seamless support for research projects (e.g., reference, interlibrary loan, scholarly communications).
Stay current with best practices, tools, and standards in systematic review methodology.
Contribute to professional growth through research, publishing, grant writing, and engagement in professional organizations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program, or academic credentials appropriate to the position.
  • Experience in an academic, special, or medical library (including staff or intern positions).
  • Evidence of participation in research teams (publications preferred).
  • Advanced searching skills and experience with systematic reviews or meta-analysis and biomedical databases (e.g. PubMed, Embase).
  • Familiarity with citation management tools (e.g. EndNote, RefWorks, or Mendeley).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team oriented and user-focused philosophy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practice resources and standards (e.g. PRISMA or JBI).
  • Knowledge of systematic review software (e.g. Rayyan, Covidence, RevMan, or DistillerSR).
  • Familiarity with systematic review protocol repositories and other Open Science processes.
  • Active in professional communities related to systematic reviews.
  • Experience with project management or collaboration tools (e.g. Slack, Trello, or Microsoft Teams).
  • Apprenticeship, training, or shadowing librarians working on evidence synthesis projects (e.g. systematic reviews)
