Job description

The Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) is the state's leading economic development organization with a streamlined mission to grow and strengthen Arizona's economy.

The ACA uses a three-pronged approach to advance the overall economy: recruit, grow, create – recruit out-of-state companies to expand their operations in Arizona; work with existing companies to grow their business in Arizona and beyond; and partner with entrepreneurs and companies large and small to create new jobs and businesses in targeted industries.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The ACA is seeking to hire a part-time Intern in its Grants and Opportunities team. The position begins upon hire and is funded through June 30, 2027.

This Internship will entail supporting efforts to:

  • Develop resources, outreach and and events to support Opportunity Zone investment in Arizona.
  • Increase awareness of and engagement with development finance and community development tools (e.g., grants, tax credits, bonds, loan funds) throughout Arizona, including through an event that brings community and tribal leaders together with federal and state partners to learn about these tools.
  • Refine ACA's grants-related policies, procedures and processes and identify potential federal and private funding for ACA priorities.

Tasks will be a mix of:

  • administrative work (making calls, handling mail-merged letters, assisting with mailings, maintaining SharePoint files, scheduling meetings, proofreading),
  • research (looking into funding opportunities, identifying and summarizing examples of development finance case use-case examples, etc.) and,
  • engagement (e.g., joining meetings with stakeholders, partners, and others and helping with follow-up; assisting with ACA-sponsored events, etc.).

 

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM DETAILS:

  • This is a 28-hour a week position to be worked as three full days and one half day between Monday and Thursday, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., in our downtown Phoenix office. Candidates must be able to work three-and-a-half days each week to be eligible for this internship.
  • Location – Phoenix, AZ, onsite/in-office
  • Internship Dates – TBD September 2026 through June 30, 2027
  • Schedule – Part-time 28-hours per week
  • Pay – $19 per hour junior/senior undergraduate student; $21 per hour graduate student.
  • Our selection process will include a virtual screening interview and an in-person interview in Phoenix. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • To be considered an eligible candidate, you must submit a resume and cover letter. Both are required.
  • Must be a current junior/senior undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at an accredited university.
  • Must be able to commit to work onsite (no remote option) 28 hours per week; September 2026 through June 2027.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced skill in Excel.
  • Organized, professional, and eager to learn!
