Essential Duties Summary
Basic Function:
  • Instruct classes in studio arts media such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics. Position includes oversight of one or more of the specializations of studio arts above, including maintaining and ordering instructional supplies.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum qualifications are
  • Master's Degree in Art or Fine Arts OR
  • The equivalent OR

  • Possess a California Community College life credential in the subject matter area of Art or Fine Arts.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications
EXPERIENCE:
Preference may be given to candidates with life or teaching which would demonstrate the clear ability to:
  • Teach all levels of ceramics from beginning to advanced
  • Wet slab, leather hard, and coil method projects
  • High fired gas and kiln maintenance, loading/firing, Raku firing, and safety for students
  • Wheel throwing projects suitable for beginning to advanced students
  • Art studio maintenance and ordering of art supplies

  • Comfortable working at heights above six feet, including walking on high cat walk spaces above the auditorium
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, & crawling
  • Pushing, pulling, guiding materials
  • Stand, walk on unstable surface
  • Lifting greater than 50 lbs.
  • Assemble, connect small objects
  • Reaching retrieving work materials
  • Guiding power tools
  • Operate equipment controls, levers and buttons
  • Work near moving objects
  • Exposure to fumes, noise, extreme temperatures, sharp objects
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule according to production needs including weekends and nights.

Range/Step
Class I - VII (Based on degree and teaching experience).
Salary Range
Steps 1: $1,558.22 - Step 10: $2,609.76 per unit.

PART-TIME (less than .60 FTE): Part-time positions less than .60 FTE are not entitled to any District paid fringe benefits.
