Job description

Program: Middle School Arts Audition Boot Camp

Job Location: TBD

The Number of Openings: 5

Availability: July 27-July 31, 2026 (4-5 days) and August 3-August 14, 2026 (10 days). 7 hours per day.

Pay Rate: $20 per hour


About Studio in a School

Studio in a School fosters the creative and intellectual development of young people through quality visual arts programs directed by professional artists, arts and cultural internships, and apprentice-based learning in the arts. The organization also collaborates with and develops the ability of those who provide or support arts programming and creative development for young people both in and outside of schools.

About the Middle School Arts Audition Boot Camp

This summer, Studio in a School will partner with the NYC Public Schools Arts Office on the Middle School Arts Audition Boot Camp, a free two-week program which prepares students to apply for screened arts high schools. A select number of NYC public school students attending designated Title 1 schools and entering grade 8 in September 2026 will be participating this summer. The Arts Mentors will assist and support Studio Artist Instructors throughout the program.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide teaching assistance to Studio Artist Instructors.
  • Mentor student participants.
  • Prepare and maintain supplies.
  • Classroom setup before the program starts and breakdown on the final day.
  • Attend planning meetings before the program starts.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of the final exhibition of student work.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Additional Requirements

  • Current Graduate or Undergraduate student in Visual Art, Art Education or other relevant field.
  • Commitment to the mission of Studio in a School.
  • NYC Public Schools Fingerprint and Background Check Clearance upon employment.
