Position Summary & Description
The Department of Student Affairs, Student Success, and Disability Access at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applicants for anticipated part-time, temporary faculty position(s) for the Fall 2026 semester.
This position offers an opportunity to directly influence student success, persistence, and engagement by teaching first-year experience and leadership-focused courses that help students develop the academic, personal, and professional skills necessary to thrive in college and beyond.
We seek educators who are passionate about student development, inclusive teaching practices, and supporting diverse student populations as they transition into higher education.
Teaching:
  • Successful candidates must be able to teach undergraduate courses (face-to-face/hybrid). May also include work at the Punxsutawney Campus. Potential courses include:
    • UNIV 101: First Learning Year (FLY)
      • Develops academic, social, and personal skills needed for success in the first year of college and beyond. Examines topics of organization, study skills, academic and social engagement, educational plans, university policies, perseverance, change, and adaptation to the demands of college life. Explores the major mindsets of Life Design (i.e., action, collaboration, curiosity, process, reframing, storytelling). Studies the 8 dimensions of wellness; emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social, spiritual.
    • UGSS 161: Leadership and Teamwork in Higher Education
      • Analyzes how leaders engage within a college campus by evaluating real-world practices and assessing their impact on campus communities. Examines the historical development of leadership and teamwork initiatives that have shaped higher education and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Designs and implements a team-based service-learning initiative that applies personal leadership and teamwork skills to address identified campus or community needs.

  • Other duties involve participating in departmental committees and advising students.
  • The successful candidate may be asked to work at off-campus sites and/or provide instruction through distance education asynchronously and/or synchronously through zoom technology.

Position Qualifications
Required:
• Master's degree in Education, Student Development, Student Affairs or related field.
• Experience teaching in college setting.
• Expertise in first-year student development.
• Experience working with students from underserved backgrounds.
• Experience working with underprepared students.
• Experience teaching first-year experience courses.
Essential Functions
Academic faculty must have, and maintain the physical and mental abilities, communication skills, and stamina necessary to carry out the essential functions of their positions in teaching, and service.
Faculty must be able to:
Teach courses assigned by the Dean on a schedule made of a combination of standard class-meeting times as determined to meet instructional needs and adhere to the requirements of the department's curriculum.
Teach courses for a mandated number of contact hours per week over a full semester and meet university expectations for student consultation hours and final exams.
Present course material in a clear and organized manner using methodologies appropriate to the discipline.
Evaluate student work fairly and promptly.
Perform the physical requirements of laboratory, field work, studio work, or other activities outside typical classroom instruction if applicable.
Maintain current knowledge of the discipline through continued scholarly activity and research.
Participate actively in assignments necessary to advance the service and/or outreach of the department, college, and university.
