What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Startup Advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Startup Advisor, you need a solid background in business strategy, entrepreneurship, and industry-specific expertise, often supported by prior startup or executive experience. Familiarity with business modeling tools, financial forecasting software, and common project management platforms is typically expected. Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and mentoring skills help advisors build trust and guide founders effectively. These abilities are crucial for providing actionable guidance, facilitating growth, and navigating the fast-paced challenges of early-stage startups.

What is the difference between Part Time Startup Advisor vs Part Time Business Consultant?

AspectPart Time Startup AdvisorPart Time Business Consultant
CredentialsExperience in startups, industry-specific knowledgeBusiness degree, consulting certifications often preferred
Work EnvironmentStartup ecosystems, entrepreneurial settingsVarious industries, corporate or small business environments
Employer & Industry UsageStartup founders, accelerators, incubatorsBusinesses seeking strategic advice, consulting firms
Search & Comparison IntentLooking for startup-specific guidanceSeeking general business improvement advice

While both roles involve providing strategic advice, a Part Time Startup Advisor specializes in guiding early-stage startups and entrepreneurs, often within startup ecosystems. In contrast, a Part Time Business Consultant offers broader consulting services across various industries, focusing on general business growth and efficiency. The choice depends on whether you need startup-specific expertise or general business consulting support.

How do part-time Startup Advisors typically balance their advisory responsibilities with other professional commitments?

Part-time Startup Advisors often juggle their advisory duties alongside other professional roles, so effective time management and clear communication are essential. Advisors usually work on a flexible schedule, often attending scheduled meetings, reviewing pitch materials, and providing feedback via email or video calls. Many startups expect advisors to concentrate on high-impact areas such as strategy, fundraising, or product development rather than day-to-day operations. It's common to establish clear expectations with the founding team to ensure the advisor's contributions are both meaningful and manageable within their limited hours.

What is a part-time startup advisor?

A part-time startup advisor is an experienced professional who provides guidance and expertise to early-stage companies on a flexible, non-full-time basis. They typically help founders with business strategy, fundraising, product development, networking, and scaling operations. Unlike full-time executives or board members, part-time advisors often work with multiple startups, dedicating a set number of hours per week or month. Their involvement can be particularly valuable for startups that need specialized knowledge but do not yet have the resources to hire full-time experts.

About The Role
Fora is seeking a Senior Manager, Flagship Events to lead the strategy, execution, and evolution of our largest and most visible event programs, including Live Forum, Networking Roadshows, and other large-scale brand and community experiences.
This role owns a focused portfolio of flagship events and is responsible for delivering high-impact, scalable programs that drive advisor engagement, strengthen partner relationships, and elevate Fora's brand. You will operate end-to-end - defining event strategy, managing budgets, and leading execution across programming, production, and communications.
This is a highly hands-on role for someone who can seamlessly move between big-picture thinking and detailed execution, while building the systems and workflows needed to support efficient, repeatable event delivery.
Reporting to the Head of Advisor Events, this role works cross-functionally to ensure flagship events are executed at a consistently high standard and deliver measurable business impact.
Key Responsibilities
  • End-to-End Event Ownership: Own end-to-end strategy and execution of flagship events, including conferences, multi-day programs, and multi-city series, ensuring a consistently high standard across programming, production, and attendee experience.
  • Event Portfolio Strategy: Lead the development and evolution of Fora's flagship event portfolio, defining goals, structure, and success metrics aligned to advisor engagement, partner value, and brand impact.
  • Planning & Execution Management: Develop and manage detailed event plans, timelines, and run-of-show documents to ensure seamless execution across complex, large-scale programs.
  • Attendee Journey: Oversee attendee experience across all touchpoints, including registration, communications, and on-site execution, ensuring a clear and cohesive experience at scale.
  • Strategic Prioritization: Drive planning and prioritization across the flagship events portfolio, balancing multiple complex workstreams and timelines.
  • Operational Infrastructure: Build and maintain structured workflows and processes that support efficient planning and execution across complex events.
  • Systems, Automation & AI Enablement: Own and evolve the systems that power flagship events, including ticketing, registration, and internal workflows; leverage tools like Airtable, Zapier, and AI to automate processes, improve data visibility, and build scalable frameworks that reduce manual work and increase efficiency.
  • Budget & Financial Management: Own event budgets, including forecasting, expense tracking, revenue considerations, and post-event reconciliation, with strong financial discipline.
  • Performance & Commercial Impact: Track and communicate the commercial impact of events - including advisor engagement, supplier relationship development, and business outcomes - to inform future programming decisions and continuously improve event offerings.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and develop a small team, providing direction, structure, and support to ensure successful execution across multiple programs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Brand and Content, Partnerships, Finance, Training, Communications, and advisor segment owners to align on event goals, programming, and resource planning.
Requirements
  • 6-9+ years of experience in large-scale networking events, conferences, or leadership summits, including managing programs with 800+ attendees
  • Proven experience owning complex events end-to-end, from strategy and programming through execution and post-event analysis
  • Strong systems mindset with a demonstrated ability to solve problems, build workflows from scratch, and independently identify better ways of working using tools, automation, and AI
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to build structured plans, manage timelines, and drive execution across complex initiatives while managing multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Demonstrated experience managing event budgets and P&L, including forecasting, cost tracking, and reconciliation
  • Deep experience with event technology and registration platforms such as Splash, Cvent, Bizzabo, or similar
  • Highly curious and resourceful, with a bias toward figuring things out, learning new tools quickly, and continuously improving how work gets done
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience managing cross-functional stakeholders and large-scale attendee communications
  • Experience managing or mentoring team members
Strongly Preferred
  • Experience in travel, hospitality, community-driven, or experiential brands
  • Experience supporting sponsorship strategy or partner-driven event revenue
  • Background in fast-paced or startup environments
Compensation
Compensation for this role varies based on experience, with an indicative range of $120K-$150K + equity. Final compensation will depend on the level at which the candidate is hired, as we're considering multiple levels for this role.
  • Unlimited vacation
  • Health Insurance (including an option completely covered by Fora HQ)
  • Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Wellhub Memberships
  • 401k plan with company match
  • Commuter Benefits
  • Supplemental Life Insurance
  • Stock Options

This role is based in our beautiful New York City office (Tribeca/Fidi) with lots of natural light and great views.
