Job Summary:

The Database Architect will lead the design, implementation, and governance of enterprise database solutions, ensuring high performance, scalability, security, and compliance with federal standards.
This role requires deep expertise in modern data architecture, cloud platforms, and database optimization, along with experience supporting federal IT environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement enterprise-level database architectures (relational and NoSQL)

  • Develop data models, schemas, and standards for scalable systems

  • Lead database strategy for cloud migration and modernization initiatives

  • Define data lifecycle management policies

  • Database Management & Optimization

  • Optimize database performance (query tuning, indexing, partitioning)

  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and failover strategies

  • Implement automation for monitoring and performance tracking

  • Conduct capacity planning and forecasting

  • Cloud & Modern Data Platforms

  • Architect solutions on platforms such as:

  • Amazon Web Services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB)

  • Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL, Cosmos DB)

  • Oracle Cloud / Exadata

  • Support hybrid and multi-cloud data architectures

  • Security & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with:

  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST RMF)

  • Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program

  • Implement data encryption, masking, and access controls

  • Support ATO and continuous monitoring requirements

  • Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with application architects, DevSecOps teams, and business stakeholders

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to database engineers

  • Support proposal efforts and solution architecture design.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
  • 5-10+ years of experience in database architecture or engineering
    Strong expertise in:
  • SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL
  • NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra)
  • Experience with cloud-native database solutions (AWS/Azure)
  • Deep understanding of:
  • Data modeling (OLTP / OLAP)

  • Backup, recovery, and replication strategies
