Description
This is a part-time position and is scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week and less than 1000 hours per fiscal year. A non-supervisory position with journeyman level responsibility for the performance of skilled manual labor, including the care and maintenance of ballparks and other recreational facilities operated by the city; primary responsibility is for ballpark maintenance during league play and tournaments. This position will mostly work in the evenings during league play and on weekends when there are scheduled tournaments. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood "I SERVE" Core Values.
Examples of Duties
1) Weed eating and cutting grass in recreation areas and all ball-fields; 2) Irrigation and repair; 3) Cleans restrooms in complex and recreational buildings; 4) Repairs fences, gates, bleachers and general maintenance including assisting others as needed; 5) Clean parks and recreational areas and pick up trash; 6) Mark fields to specifications of the leagues and tournaments; 7) Drives a City vehicle from site to site in order to perform duties; 8) Performs other duties as assigned by Recreation Supervisor and Director of Parks & Recreation.
Typical Qualifications
Must have enough education to read and write.
Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.
Basic knowledge of methods, practices and materials used in ball-field maintenance, general maintenance work; ability to understand and follow verbal instructions; ability to perform job satisfactorily without constant supervision. Ability to operate push and riding mowers, weed eaters, edger's, tillers and line marking machines. Tractor experience helpful.
Supplemental Information
Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to potentially hazardous mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and 50 to 75 pounds occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms, sweep, and dig. Ability to walk over uneven, sloped & uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet, cutting grass and tree limbs. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, and odors. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication. Outdoors, subject to exposure to adverse weather conditions, noise, dust and physical demands of manual labor; required to work flexible hours when necessary.
