POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sports Instructor is responsible for organizing and instructing sport class in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment. This position may involve early morning, evening and weekend responsibilities. This job is performed to standard when all work is completed accurately and on time, with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.

Prepares and maintains field/gym/class area before and after program; organizes, sets up and puts away class equipment; reports damaged equipment

Officiates sport/activity matches and games as scheduled

Leads energizing, fun, safe and educational classes/practices/games, as directed by the coordinator, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals

Ability to process, understand and respond appropriately to emergency situations

Track participation, distribute program evaluations/customer surveys to improve quality of program and retention of participants

Assist in parties and special events as needed

Creates lessons plans/curriculum for review and substitution needs

Maintain quality service by following organization standards

Maintain facilities and equipment in safe working order

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Perform any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the River Valley Regional YMCA

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 16 years of age with one year experience working with children; working papers as required

Requires knowledge in sport or specialty plus 1 year experience working with children

Requires current CPR, AED and First Aid certification plus corresponding certifications in specialty, as applicable

Effective Communication; written, oral and through presentations

Must have strong collaborative work ethic

Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to perform the following physical activities adequately: standing, sitting, squatting, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, or crawling

Ability to function under inside and outside environmental conditions

Ability to lift or carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds

Ability to perform the following sensory and communicative activities adequately: hearing and seeing; reading, writing, speaking English fluently.
